Somebody better break it to the New York Times: they might still be the paper of record in their own minds, but to the rest of the world, they're just one more dead-tree joint struggling for attention.
The Old Grey Lady's unjustified conceit was on display during this afternoon's Hardball, when one of its reporters was aghast that Chris Matthews had had the audacity not to have read her oeuvre.
NYT reporter Deborah Solomon had interviewed the Rev. John Hagee, a minister who has endorsed McCain and has made a number of controversial statements. I would mention in passing that while Hagee's critics have accused him of anti-Semitism, he has in fact received numerous awards from Jewish groups for his steadfast support of Israel.

And #20.
Thanks, LV. They keep making spectacles of themselves, we’ll keep reporting it ;-)
Joe E. Lewis had a trademark enormous mouth. I would believe that he could put his fist in it.
Just a guess.. Joe E Lewis?
A poster at NewsBusters:
“Oh my...I am ROFL now...I saw this little snippet with her...she was amazed...amazed I tell ya’ that he had not read her beautiful prose....I laughed then, I’m laughing now.”
My parakeet said that she too somehow overlooked the article.
Clowns make me laugh, and the NYT has a stable full.
Anyone have a clown picture?
Weird coincidence: my African grey just made a remark along similar lines, but would be glad to pay it appropriate homage should it turn up at the bottom of his cage ;-)
Joe E Brown. And while he had a big mouth, I don't believe he was ever able to get his entire fist into it.
BTW:
Hagee endorsed McCain. Obama endorsed Wright. Big difference there....
You’re right: Joe E. Brown, not Lewis. I’ve done some Googling and while I find many references to his “cavernous” and “elastic” mouth I don’t see anything about him sticking his entire fist in it. But I can swear I remember seeing that as a kid. Maybe someone else can confirm it.
“NYT reporter Deborah Solomon had interviewed the Rev. John Hagee, a minister who has endorsed McCain and has made a number of controversial statements. I would mention in passing that while Hagee’s critics have accused him of anti-Semitism”
Wow, I’ve heard some stuff about Hagee, but ANTI-SEMITISM????? Surely you jest. He has what some consider anti-Catholic views, but the things he says are scripturally based. Everyone has a right to agree or disagree. It’s all about doctrine, and that’s what different churches disagree on - based on scripture (I say this to leave “Rev” Wright out of this, he seems to have no acquaintance with scripture). Hagee is a MAJOR supporter of Israel, so how could anyone accuse him of anti-Semitism?
FWIW, I spent a few minutes trying to verify that Joe E Lewis could stick his fist in his mouth but didn't come up with anything.
I watched that segment. What a laugh. The NYT reporter was shaken that Chris didn’t read her article. But then Chris covers it by saying the esteemed NYT Magazine. HA! The content is typical NYT crap.
Gag me with a spoon. Is that thing from the Old Grey Whore a man or a woman?
Maybe I should start watching......never mind, I'll let other do the heavy lifting.
Thank you, sir.
Now I can go to sleep laughing, and everyone in the house will ask why I’m laughing.
