Bill Richardson: In Big Oil's Pocket?
Mother Jones ^ | 26 July 2007 | James Ridgeway

...At the close of the Clinton administration, Richardson signed on as a senior managing director with Kissinger McLarty Associates, the advisory firm formed by Henry Kissinger and former Clinton chief of staff Mack McLarty, and promptly joined the boards of three large oil companies: Houston-based Diamond Offshore Drilling, a company once run by George Herbert Walker Bush; Denver-based Venoco; and Valero, North America's largest independent refinery. Until recently, Richardson held Valero stock worth between $100,001 and $250,000 and options valued between $250,001 and $500,000, according to disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission. He divested himself of his stake in Valero in May, saying his financial ties to the company had become a "distraction" to his presidential campaign.

...Beyond his coziness with the oil industry, Richardson was also caught up on the fringes of the Peregrine Systems scandal, a financial scam in the Enron style. Between February 2001 and June 2002 he served as on outside director on the board of Peregrine, a San Diego-based software company whose CEO, Stephen Gardner, was the brother-in-law of Richardson’s wife. During this period of time the company's directors were engaged in various acts of financial impropriety, including masking the severity of Peregrine's losses with phony accounting. The company eventually went bankrupt and Gardner was later charged with obstruction of justice and securities fraud. When Richardson was asked about the Peregrine scandal during his gubernatorial campaign in 2002, he claimed to have had no involvement "because I was what was called an 'outside director" and "didn't have time" to read the company's corporate reports. But according to the San Diego Reader, "Records show that Richardson attended, in person or by phone, 15 board meetings. In those meetings, directors were hearing that the company might get caught cooking the books."

Funny how they left out that Richardson was also Bill Clinton’s UN Ambassador, and it was Richardson who spirited Monica off to work at the UN when the blue dress stain was all the news.

Richardson has been very complicit with both the Clinton’s and now he endorses Obama!!

Not that I think “endorsements” hold the water they once did. The Union you belinged to used to tell you whom to vote for. Been there in person for that little meeting.

Isn't it beautiful to see the left eat its own? Richardson was one semi-sane voice in the cacophony of fools that were running for the Democrat nomination. That said the left has such tired tirades. They are like children in their analysis. Big oil, Big corporations, Big is bad in their books. I for one am fed up with the small peddlers of fear and envy. Small people with Big whine who deserve only to be laughed at and pelted with rotten tomatoes. They are the armies of the knowing nod and twirled finger aside the head, that any of their ilk could aspire to the Presidency is an indicator of what a low period our country is going through.

Who is the left going to back? Yesterday The Nation skewers Hillary and today Mother Jones makes the haloed one’s most important supporter look like a board member at Croftwiler’s Industrial Cartel, makers of all kinds of stuff made out of everything.(Apologies to the great Bob and Ray)

I just heard Richardson has endorsed Obama. I didn’t know you could get off the Clinton plantation! That must have riled Hillary’s feathers. Richardson wants to be somebodies VP...anybody!

Yes, he did. The only Hispanic Gov. This is significant and he might be angling for the VP slot if he can bring the Hispanic vote with him. Might be interesting if a Republican could do that trick.

This is just one more of the 10s of 1000s of pieces of irrefutable evidence of Left-wing, socialist, Move-on .org, DemoCRAT hypocrisy.

On the one hand they pontificate, brag, and seek to politically benefit from the hate “Big Oil” crowd. And they brag how “green” they are in promoting Global Warming (now renamed “Climate Change”), “green house gas” restrictions, hate Haliburton, and other enviro terrorist scams.

And on the other hand, hoping few can see, they financially benefit and promote via their investments and participation in the market and management of the petroleum industry. While at the same time, participate in carbon credit sales scams. They play both sides for financial gain (hypocritical to the so called anti-capitalist fools they hang out with) engaged in the principals of capitalism (to benefit) to then go about to screw capitalism.

They are liars, thieves, arrogant, unsigned, seditious ba$tards, all of them.

They intentionally go about to undermine this Nation's economy, aligning themselves with America's enemies, while at the same time faking indignation when they are properly labeled as unpatriotic.

The lynch pin of a free capitalist society is within its economic strength and liberty of its people to do business freely. To then promote irrational regulation, taxation, or to in any way go about to do damage to that free capitalist economy is unpatriotic, un-American, seditious, and worthy of all condemnation.

Hear Me Now, Believe Me Later.

Bill Richardson: In Big Oil's Pocket?

They say that as if its a bad thing.

The oil business, they're the guys, the millions of guys, who make your life as you know it possible.

They are also the millions of people who, whenever Dems start talking about oil, know they are full of it.

Houston-based Diamond Offshore Drilling, a company once run by George Herbert Walker Bush; Denver-based Venoco; and Valero, North America's largest independent refinery.

Actually, strictly speaking, wouldn't that be "small independent oil"?

I’m sure the Clinton’s are more than a bit upset. What will be interesting is to see what they will offer John Edwards in order to get his support. I think politically it is Edwards that offers Clinton a small glimmer of hope for the nomination.

Edwards was being interviewed this morning. He won’t say anything bad against either of them. You’re right, he’s waiting in the VP wings....

Bill Richardson: In Big Oil's Pocket?

Not likely. Here in New Mexico Richardson and his hand-picked agency subordinates are trying to shut down the industry (NM's bread and butter) with increasing feel-good regulations on drilling and operation that don't accomplish much in the way of environmental protection but which are very costly to the industry.
