Just play old clips of Reagan, it will be better than anything the current Republicans have to offer.

The implication here is that a speech is going to offset all McCain's negatives. It won't. McCain needs to offset those negatives between now and the Convention. Some suggestions:
- Fire Juan Hernandez and publicly repudiate his ideas
- Name who will be his economic advisors, since he's obviously ignorant on the subject
- Put a hold on the nomination of Mike Sullivan to BATFE
- Oppose research on or use of embryonic stem cells
- Vote against any bailouts for banks and other businesses
Promises mean nothing. There's no way we can punish him if he fails to keep them. Positive steps between now and the Convention will mean a lot more than a rousing speech by someone who won't be holding the office of President.

Pat Buchanan. :-)
Well, really, his 1992 speech was excellent and prophetic. Too bad the weenies in the GOP felt the need to denounce it almost before Pat was done speaking.

Jim DeMint would also be superb. He’s the one who introduced the measure to defund Bezerkeley and other places who drive out military recruiters.

Who can fire up the base and make this a truly energized convention? Nobody here will like the answer, though. Arnold. See 2004. Hey, he can fire people up.

I suggest that the best idea would be for McCain to stand up and say, “I’m declining the nomination. Now, go to it guys, and see if you can find a decent candidate!”

Senator Coburn from Oklahoma. The Doctor. I’ve always been very impressed with him when I’ve seen him speak.

...We need someone like Zell Miller. That was a truly memorable speech. Zell Miller would be great ! How is he doing these days? have not heard of him for awhile. Does the Keynote Speaker have to be a Republican?

I agree with you about Mitt Romney. His religion in America speech was great as was his withdrawal speech. He is a very effective speaker and even inspiring speaker. I can’t think of anyone else who would do as well. And nobody suggest Huckabee, please. Enough of that boob.
To: joebuck
Amen. Coburn is the GREATEST man in the Senate.

No. I lost all respect for Chuck when he endorsed Elmer Gantry for President.
