It was extremely unlikely that Hillary Clinton was going to overcome Barack Obama's lead in delegates, states and total votes and take the Democratic nomination, but Obama's speech this morning -- graceful, thoughtful, nuanced, sweeping, challenging, unprecedented -- pretty much wiped out any chance at all. It was a speech Hillary could never have given -- really, few U.S. politicians ever could have given.
I write this not just because I think this will dampen the Rev. Wright controversy. I write this because Obama did an extraordinary job of presenting himself as the candidate of "the better angels of our nature," to use the phrase from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address. His speech isn't just inspirational to millions of voters who are tired of cynicism and division. I think many in the political media will see it as redemptive on personal grounds. Maybe they really aren't spending their careers in swampland.
Which not-so-coincidentally is the name of Time magazine's fine national politics blog.
Obama’s speech today only served to prove beyond any shadow of a doubt his racially motivated hatred of “the evil white man”.
Basically, he has only shown us what we already suspected, that he’s a shallow, unskilled racist politician who hangs out with other racists and bigots.
In the end, the media will ravage him for his bigotry. This speech will serve as the launching pad for the undoing of his messianic rise.
But it was a deftly presented speech that will make people feel good about Obama, and since the Dim party is all about feelings, the article is probably right.
McCain won't do it and will denounce those who try to. McCain's election will have to be accomplished over his own rhetorical dead body IMO.
Oh, I'm sure the liberal media will swoon over their 'savior'. But it doesn't change a thing for me. Obamie is still the devil.
BTTT
Blood should be running down that stem.
My Gosh....why dont this guy just give him a wet, sloppy.......uh....kiss
Obama has been able to duck press conferences.
The MSM must believe he is vulnerable but he can’t
hide any longer
Better download those quickly for archiving ... the tube is about to censor those inflammatory sermons ‘in the interest of promoting peace’.
Ohhhh... now that’s very clever!
I do not believe for a minute that it’s over. There is still time for the Clinton’s to put out the hit.
**Note** the views, speculation and innuendo regarding the Clintons putting the ‘hit’ on political rivals or those that know too much are not necessarily shared by me. I do however repeat gossip. :snicker:
LOL Chris Reed.
To old Hunter supporters; that name ring any bells? ;D

Anytime someone is described as “nuanced”, I say, “GET THE HOOK!”
*yawn* Yup, such an awesome speech... Umm, ‘cept didn’t watch it, but I’m sure that it’ll be repeated over and over again how great a speech it was. Meanwhile, most of the electorate couldn’t give a rat’s behind about such things. The general public has looked at Obama, and passed. So please, please, continue the lauding of how wonderful it was, morons, while the emails about Obama’s church continue to spread...
Ridiculous - Obama attends a black-power church (with an over-the-top black-power minister) to find himself as a black/African-American man, but the rest of us have to “overcome the politics of racial divide.” What a hyprocrite.
I read the speech. It seemed pretty pedestrian to me, with a lot of feel good rhetoric, but no actual substance. In other words, it hardly differed from his standard fare.
But, hey, I don’t care if Obama is the nominee. He is now easier to beat than Hillary.
