LIVE THREAD - Under Pressure, Obama Prepares for Race and Unity Speech
Fox News ^ | 18 March 2008

Posted on 03/18/2008 6:12:13 AM PDT by SE Mom

Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.

In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.

In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

Not quite...

Charles, Doug - your esteemed opinions matter...

The Ashley Defense

Ladies and Gentlemen of this supposed nation, I have one final thing I want you to consider…

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Ashley. Ashley is a white woman who lives in South Carolina, but she feeds her sick mother – who has no health care – mustard and relish sandwiches. Now think about it, that does not make sense!

Why would a white woman, for a whole year, want to feed her sick mother mustard and relish sandwiches? Don’t she know that ramen noodles are cheaper? How can she afford ramen noodles when she works for free for Barack Obama? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with my racist pastor? Nothing.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it has nothing to do with my speech! It does not make sense! Look at me. I’m a senator running for President, and I’m talkin’ about Ashley! Does this make sense?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you’re in that voting booth deliberatin’ and conjugatin’ my Pastor’s whitey-hatin, does it make sense? No! Ladies and Gentlemen of this supposed country, it does not make sense! If Ashley feeds her mom mustard and relish sandwiches, you must vote for me – or you’re a racist! The campaign rests, G.D. America!

Look at the cankle! Look at the silly cankle!

> Don’t you people get it?

But “we” didn’t do this.

This little black op, to me, has James Carville written all over it.

I’ll take Hillary over the racist fascist Obama any day.

John McCain is our last chance

Had me reading until that.

It is you who is not getting it.

Hillary can NOT be defeated by Juan McCain. - In fact they are pretty darn close on a whole host of issues.
A large chunk of the normal GOP electorate will not support him and a large chunk of whatever you see as that mythical beast the "independents" will not vote for McCain in a contest with hillary.

You, me, and 3 poodles have a good chance to beat Obama in November, but Obama can do the one thing that we - and certainly McCain - cannot. - Beat hillary Clinton!

There have been postings about BHO’s church and its pastor on this site since February of ‘08 and the media has picked it up just in the last week or so. Some damn good reporters out there, huh? /s

It sure would, but look at it this way - which I believe is the reality of the current situation:

McCain cannot defeat Hillary Clinton.
McCain can defeat Obama.

and being stuck with Obama and his zero political history
is far less dangerous than being stuck with the very powerful clinton political machine which has decades of power building behind it.

Nobody in power owes him a damn thing and that is very likely exactly what he would get.
Of course, I share your revulsion regarding this guy being anywhere near the oval office, but if we cannot beat Obama, than it is time for the GOP to pack up and go home, because they couldn't beat Laurel and Hardy.

Let alone a Clinton ...

Words do matter - just as Obama said himself! He didn’t respond to Rev. Wright’s speeches until he felt the pressure. Obama is not to be trusted in the White House, or the Senate!!!

“McCain cannot defeat Hillary Clinton.
McCain can defeat Obama.”

I respectfully.......disagree. Hillary has way too much baggage that is just waiting in the wings for release. Right now we let them fight, then bring out the big guns.

Thanks for the replies.

I have to correct myself, it’s not just the Jackson/Sharpton/Wright/Obama team that does this. Liberals as a whole promote this mentality. I’m disgusted at how they color-code and pigeon people on their socialist mosaic. This interparty cockfighting is the result. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.

Sodpoodle - I agree that Michael Steele is a great, public example of what it means to take responsibility for your life regardless of race. I donated to him before and I’d gladly do it again. I’ve been called an oreo but I guess it’s a matter of time until they’re thrown at me.

OB needs to thank the unions for that - which begs the question: “Are companies supposed to run enterprises into bankruptcy and beg the guvmint for bailouts?”

Let's get real here. What is Barack Obama besides a union organizer? What is "universal healthcare" other than the medical industry in this country wanting the same government gimmees that the education system/NEA gets?

Why would they have to care about the bottom line?

I don’t agree.

Clinton needs the black vote to win.

She’s not going to get it if she wins the primary. In fact the far left of her party will be near riot mode if she wins the primary because “she stole the primary”.

Add to that she has huge negative ratings with nearly 50% that will not vote for her from the get go.

So the war between Obama and Clinton is doing real damage. Hillary taking the primary now would put the final seal on the dems fate this election year.
