LIVE THREAD - Under Pressure, Obama Prepares for Race and Unity Speech
Fox News ^ | 18 March 2008

Posted on 03/18/2008 6:12:13 AM PDT by SE Mom

Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.

In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.

In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

Probably a bunch of braindead Philly party hacks.

Rush is wasting no time: Wright is a hate monger and Obama won't leave his side. This Presidential Campaign with Obama is now about race. Do the Dems want that?

Well, I thought it was a very good speach.

It addressed that Obama is a Christian, and denounces the Rev Wrights comments, while understanding where they come from.

I liked all of it except the part about getting out of a war that should never have been authorized.

I would feel comfortable voting for Obama except for his cut and run Iraq plan and what that implies for national security.

The rest of his Liberal agenda I can understand, though not fully embrace. (more taxes).

His new preacher is exactly the same as his old preacher... you-tube has the video. It is clear that the new preacher agrees with wright because every time wright uttered a racist remark the new preacher would get up and walk to the pulpit and back slap and hi-five wright!

Why is it okay that for the past week he said he was never present when these things were said and that had he been, he would have stood up and said something, yet today he admits he was present and did absolutely nothing for 20 years?

Obama was essentially an orphan, abandoned by his parents and raised by his white grandparents. I agree that he seems to have found in “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright his father figure for the father he never knew. His personal tragedy is that the man he chose is going to be the undoing of his presidential campaign, and that is fine with me.

We don’t choose our parents, but he chose this guy when already an adult in his mid-20s, and he cannot escape the burdens of that chosen association now. This is not just one of numerous cousins, one of whom happens to be kinda nutty but you try to humor him because he is after all ‘family’ — Obama chose to build his adult life around this so-called “minister” and his church. It is the central fact of his life for 20 years outside of his wife and family (who are also integrally built into this church).

I can certainly understand why Obama can’t (and won’t) now run too fast away from the man who has been the central guiding mentor of his life. However, objective voters should look at this just as they would look at an Obama-twin who had been Farrakan the main mentor of his adult life.

It’s not up to “leaders” or government to take care of the people. Each individual is responsible for taking care of himself. Government has never been able to take care of anything as socialism has never worked. Government is the enemy of the people and of the individual

What? It is just those black leaders who CAMPAIGN for votes of their people, promising to take care of them, and then do not, and blame whitey.

Obviously those black leaders should campaign on individual self help and smaller government, since gov cannot do the job!

But as long as black Americans continue to vote for liberal black leaders, they are cooked as a group. (do they want to be a group, or do they want to be individuals?)

Missed the al taqiyya fest...

Did it take everyone’s eyes off Islam and Rezko?
Did it further destroy Christianity?

It did it’s job then. /s

P.S. Which of us did he blame btw?

Where did they find the flags? Quite possibly not at the local Boy Scout headquarters.

For decades (50-70s), my troop had the city concession for putting up flags on the city streets in front of businesses who were on a subscription basis.

Although we replaced the ones that were truly getting "well-worn," most flags showed some aging, as they, too, were veteran attestations to our unique American heritage.

I suspect the Obama campaign has no more kept a supply of flags near at hand than it has a supply of American flag lapel pins.

Rush also said that Mrs. Clinton was watching from her hotel room and is wondering when the house will fall on her head.

I've no doubt Obama agrees with Rev. Wright's core beliefs. If he didn't he would have walked away from his church long ago. 20 years of this vile filth and Obama was able to look his Reverend in the eye and not be sickened?
Please.

The fallout can be a repetition of the O.J. verdict, Black America’s response to the verdict, and White America’s reaction to Black America’s response.

Rush: “Obama is an ultra-liberal. He sees ‘soup line America’. He sees everyone in “groups”... Interesting to see Obama’s character, his judgement with his association with Rev. Wright... we did get a little more insight into Obama’s views, which are class envy, class warfare... they (liberals/democRATs) are miserable... ‘life, liberty is under attack’ because they don’t trust voters to do the right thing... they can’t/won’t be happy because so many in America are miserable...”

‘...How is it he took his children to hear such hate...’

Listening to Rev Wright’s anti-America rants, imho, could easily indoctrinate, not only Obama’s children, but all other young people who sat in that Church hearing their Pastor, who they believe in, repeatedly spout hateful comments about America and the white race. Didn’t Mr. Obama think that this worked against his objectives to unite people and all he wants to change?

I would love to know who was invited in the audience for this? They were told to applause politely and shut up.

Probably media and bussed in college kids.

I'm amazed with the utter lack of response.

Given the 30 times Hussein had to say, then yell "Thank You," I'd say he was quite disappointed.
