LIVE THREAD - Under Pressure, Obama Prepares for Race and Unity Speech
Fox News ^ | 18 March 2008

Posted on 03/18/2008 6:12:13 AM PDT by SE Mom

Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.

In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.

In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

I would love to know who was invited in the audience for this? They were told to applause politely and shut up.

We should all congratulate Obama on picking up the majority of black voters,

I'm not too sure about that. This will go over with the "younger" crowd, but not with a lot of the "older" crowd.

IMHO, the "been there done that, don't want to go through it again" crowd" will not vote for Barry. They have worked too hard for their "success" to see it all thrown away. But, we will have to wait & see how it all works out.

“Excellent post. It would have been better if he had gone on Oprah’s couch and cried.

Exactly! LOL”

Barbara Walters would have cut Oprah for this interview. I’ve been with the old bird. She’s ruthless and can still kick Oprah’s ass.

How about the far-left ranting drivel that “Reverend” Wright publishes in his magazine:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1987427/posts?page=51,39

Obama has been on the cover 3 times and can hardly claim he has never deigned to read the flagship magazine of his #1 mentor who puts him on the cover 3 times......that would also strain credulity once again!

Gadzooks, CNN is going all out to praise Obama!

And there seems to be no end to it.

FNC is already on the stock market and other stories.

Also, funny with all the race stuff Obama threw out there today, he made no mention of one of his church’s heroes - Louis Farahkkan.

For sure. I am a white grandma and would be really ticked if my grandson did that to me. What a cruel, back stabbing little snit Obama is.
My brother just jumped me for saying I would take another 4 years of Bush. I like that misspeaking Texan and his elegant wife.

The hazard for McCain is that Obama equated socialism with racism. If you are not a socialist you are a racist.

Ultimately, that's the nail in Obama's coffin. Had Obama been really smart, he could have carved out a whole new agenda in race relations.

This guy had the power and he squandered it. He's too deeply mired in socialist politics. Now he's an empty suit with empty rhetoric. He couldn't rise above racial hatred, he could only excuse it.

Americans aren't that stupid. This has turned into a dialog long overdue.

Does Obama support affirmative action? Yes. Therefore, he’s anti-white and all the flowery rhetoric on earth won’t change that fact. He’s just a smarter version of Jesse Jackson. He knows that speaking in ebonics and being openly anti-white won’t fly in the general election, so he’s speaking nicely and rattling off all the rhetoric about transcending race. But it’s a scam.

No one would casually excuse a white candidate who was “mentored” by a white supremacist, anti-Semite. Why excuse Obama for spending twenty years following around after a hateful clown like Wright? Not to mention that he’s lying when he pretends not to have been present during any of those hateful diatribes. In twenty years he always managed to be absent from church services when Wright went crazy in the pulpit? Please!

I had parents. Obama didsn’t. That is the difference. His mom was a flake, his dad was gone. He was looking for a dad AND HE FOUND ONE (in racist Wright).

Folks we have a winnahhh give that girl a CUPIE DOLL!

That is the reason WHY Obama has a problem, this is WHY he can never dissasociate himself from Wright or his racist beliefs and so-called "church". His adopted "father" and mentor is an anti American, anti Semitic, anti white black racist who preaches hate and believes in what he is preaching.

I believe Obama believes everything Wright believes.

Wright = David Duke so Obama = David Duke.

There is only one man qualified to be president and that Is Tom Tancredo. Long live Tancredo!

The [Ashley mustard and relish story] example had nothing to do with the crux of his speech. After blaming the white community, it was a pandering olive leaf.

Obama has used this story many times. (In fact, it was pretty much word for word his MLK Day speech at Ebenezer Baptist. So evidently the anecdote tests well in focus groups.) It always begins with the pointed observation that she's white. IMHO, it's just a maudlin embellishment of the standard "some of my best friends are fill-in-the-blanks." For a guy who claims to decry racial divisions, he sure talks a lot about skin color.

FRiends, I have a request...

I want a parody of the Chewbacca Defense called the Ashley Defense.

Here is your reference material... From Hussein’s speech.

http://www.drudgereport.com/flashos.htm

There is a young, twenty-three year old white woman named Ashley Baia who organized for our campaign in Florence, South Carolina. She had been working to organize a mostly African-American community since the beginning of this campaign, and one day she was at a roundtable discussion where everyone went around telling their story and why they were there.

And Ashley said that when she was nine years old, her mother got cancer. And because she had to miss days of work, she was let go and lost her health care. They had to file for bankruptcy, and that’s when Ashley decided that she had to do something to help her mom.

She knew that food was one of their most expensive costs, and so Ashley convinced her mother that what she really liked and really wanted to eat more than anything else was mustard and relish sandwiches. Because that was the cheapest way to eat.

She did this for a year until her mom got better, and she told everyone at the roundtable that the reason she joined our campaign was so that she could help the millions of other children in the country who want and need to help their parents too.

Now Ashley might have made a different choice. Perhaps somebody told her along the way that the source of her mother’s problems were blacks who were on welfare and too lazy to work, or Hispanics who were coming into the country illegally. But she didn’t. She sought out allies in her fight against injustice.

Anyway, Ashley finishes her story and then goes around the room and asks everyone else why they’re supporting the campaign. They all have different stories and reasons. Many bring up a specific issue. And finally they come to this elderly black man who’s been sitting there quietly the entire time. And Ashley asks him why he’s there. And he does not bring up a specific issue. He does not say health care or the economy. He does not say education or the war. He does not say that he was there because of Barack Obama. He simply says to everyone in the room, “I am here because of Ashley.”

“I’m here because of Ashley.” By itself, that single moment of recognition between that young white girl and that old black man is not enough. It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children.

You two are our best satirists. Good luck and God Speed, gentlemen.

Which is profoundly stupid, because mustard and relish are more expensive and less nutritious than rice or pasta

Or ramen noodles.
