LIVE THREAD - Under Pressure, Obama Prepares for Race and Unity Speech

Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.
In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.
In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

I watched the entire thing and came here at the end.

What about individual responsibility? What about out of wedlock births approaching 70%? What about school drop out rates? Enough of blacks as victims. That has been the problem. This is where Ronald Reagan shone -- speaking about what the individual can do, giving optimism, encouragement to man's ambitions. Obama is all about the opposite - business is bad, government is good, the individual does not matter except as fodder to blame a class and race of oppressors.

I can't wait for the convention. I don't think he will drop out, but I think he will now go into a decline and be a dead duck when the delegates convene. Hillary will get this, easily.
Then the riots begin.

Actually, he sounds like a preacher.
Hardly any applause. He has to practically scream "THANK YOU" just to get any kind of response.
This speech is a complete failure.
Now, waiting to see the DBM call Hussein the next MLK.
Coming in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....

If McCain had an ounce of sense he would make a speech now detailing the socialist agenda in Obamas speech.I agree, race-shace - that speech was an attempted moral defense of marxism.

Listening to Mike Gallagher right now and unless hes being sarcastic, says that BHO hit it out of the ballpark....that this speech will have sewn up the nomination for him. I cant tell if Gallaghers being serious or not! He's absolutely right, he's playing to his supporters. Race as an issue will resonate with them, but more importantly he's changing the subject, from racial discrimination to economic discrimination. Pure Marxism. It will appeal to primary supporters.
The general election, IMO he legitimized Rev. Wrights views by his refusal to condemn the man. Based on his comments here, Rev Wright could easily stand at his side at the Presidential inauguration. I don't think that's going to fly.

Curious that he didn’t take any questions from the media...
Nice speech...
It may keep him in the Primary race and possibly win;
BUT he is D.O.A. in the General election!

I was going to post the exact opposite. I'd never listened to one of his speeches in full but if this is what all the young moonbats call ‘ inspiring ‘ I just don't see it.
This speech is flat out boring and does not in the least explain Obama’s 20 year association with Reverend Wright.

How long before the MSM picks up the fact that Obama admitted being in attendance to some of the pastor's hate speech?

Sadly, the only way to get black kids motivated is to get them to stop thinking they are just black and to get them thinking that they are an individual, that needs to learn and struggle alone in this world.
The individualist approach always works. However, I am getting out of the school I have been laboring at. They are beginning to punish good teachers for doing their job.

Obama claimed that the government has to help people do everything, then said we needed to be independent?

BHO is just like Gov Spitzer and his ilk. He’s not sorry for what Wright said, he’s only sorry that he has to account for his own relationship with this so-called minister.
