A tornado has been reported in downtown Atlanta...some injuries.
Sorry for replying so late. Probably too late to help you but except for some pre-dawn thunderstorms its been OK here.
Th second round of storms is going through Atlanta now (12:35PM) with all of it north of I20 according to Accuweather radar.
The sun just popped out as I’m typing this. Never mind it popped back in again.
Prayers for everyone. Thanks for the update.
Atlanta wasted no time once the Crescent Limited was rerouted away from the West Point Route and L&N via Montgomery and Mobile to the Southern Railway via Birmingham to raze the old Terminal Station.
Of much less importance, we seem to have had hits on the power grid. My desktop was going crazy and kept rebooting and crashing. I suspect we had one phase dropping out. I had to move over to my laptop.
The bad stuff appears to be near Canton. This is worse than what occurred in Atlanta last night. We just don't have the novelty of it hitting an urban area. Keep the prayers coming!
Yankee, I hope you made it through OK!
Doppler Radar just saw another wind shear “hook” indicating another Tornado in Cherokee County.
Of course as usual the Atlanta media is over playing todays wheather. The ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX afiliates are giving continuous whether reports for a storm going over about 40 miles north of Atlanta. I heard a tornado went over GA-400 around 1:30 or so. Fel sorry for those SEC fans they have tickets and can’t use them.
True, but is that what you were doing here?
If not, then this scripture is irrelevant.
Think about it: When we believers speculate -- "This might have been God; That might have been God" -- we make God look bad. As the scripture teaches, speak from a position of knowledge.
Mother nature targeting CNN ? Don’t we wish.
On the other hand, they are preforming a valid service to those far north metro counties currently being hit. As testament, several individuals have called theTV stations to say that they got to a secure area just in time, thanks to the warning the TV weather men provided.
The TV coverage now is much more relevant than the sensationalist journalism of last night.
I wonder what the condition of the Georgia Dome is? Fans reported finding nuts and bolts in the seating areas as they were leaving last night. I wouldn’t want to be Georgia, trying to win 2 games in 10 hours, or 3 games in 29.
Pretty surreal scene at GT, with such a small crowd.
More important that everyone is O.K. and gets through this in good shape.
I’m about 20 miles north of Atlanta. We’ve had tornado warnings most of the afternoon...in fact, there’s one going on right now. So far, we’ve been fortunate, but we’re set up and prepared to make the mad-dash into the basement just in case.
I said that sometimes, not always, God uses the forces of nature for HIS PURPOSES.
We live in a fallen world in which God’s creation groans to see the full redemption of this Earth...
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. (Romans 8:18-25)
So, natural disasters happen - from weather, from earthquakes....part of our fallen world.
Yet in God’s mercy He did ordain that laws of nature would be in place.
But as the author of the laws of nature and as the Creator of His earth and its living things and of each one of us, He has the authority to intervene according to his purposes as He sees fit.
Does God send storms? Does He send war? Does He send earthquakes? Does He send floods?
He is not capricious. He is HOLY, RIGHTEOUS, PURE, GOOD, LOVE, LIGHT, TRUTH, CREATOR, DELIVERER, OMNIPOTENT,OMNISCIENT,OMNIPRESENT, ALMIGHTY...
There is no question that God takes these “bad things” like storms, natural disasters, wars, droughts, disease, flood...and brings in His mercy and grace and HIS PLAN and PURPOSES....as He sees fit (which means according to HIs Holiness, His Righteousness, His Love, His Mercy, His Grace, and His Wisdom.)
some examples....
The Flood - in which many were killed but Noah and his family was spared because Noah heard and obeyed God.
God’s Word says this flood came because:
Genesis 6:5-14...
5 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earthmen and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the airfor I am grieved that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
9 This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
Obviously God, the Creator, used the works of nature in judgement against people, plants, and animals....because of what had become corrupt and full of violence.....
God did that. He is sovereign God.
I don’t know what was the purpose of the storm in that Kansas city....and I do not know if God was using that storm for any of His ultimate purposes.....but I do know He in His SOVEREIGN will allowed it to occur.
And I praise and thank Him that in His mercy He has left us an ordered, lawful, natural world in which disasters like this do not happen every day in every location.
And I look forward to the day when creation is fully redeemed as the Sons of God come into their full redemption of their bodies....the hope which we who believe in Him have been promised.
Sorry for the long reply. CAn discuss further here or go on another thread...
Thank you for those pictures! They are very impressive of the power of this storm.
Glad to hear you say it was a tornado. Yes, eyewitnesses reported the FUNNEL on the GROUND....why are they not believed?
Why in the world did Atlanta decomission it’s tornado sirens? Just that they were not sufficient to warn a population as large as that in Atlanta?
Thank you for the update. How sad for that man... Prayers for all involved.
Ridiculous, isn’t it?
Glad to hear the Fire Chief at least ruled the storm a tornado....what about the weather people?
