A tornado has been reported in downtown Atlanta...some injuries.
ummm - well there actually IS good evidence of God using weather or other natural “events” to fulfill a purpose.
As the CREATOR of weather, of the laws of nature and atmosphere that produces weather, He has the AUTHORITY to intervene in “Nature” as he sees fit.
Yet God is not capricious. He is Righteous and Holy.
And He is Sovereign. And He is the maker of the LAWS of the Universe and of the LAW of mankind.
Yes He usually just lets HIS Universe operate by the laws HE created....for which all of us should be hugely grateful.
But there are hundreds if not thousands of reports in HIS WORD of times when He intervened in the events in history such as in times of natural “disasters” from droughts to famines to floods to the many “miracles” which are reported in GOD’s Word. Jesus, for instance, spoke and the winds of the storm calmed right down.
NOw either the Bible is a book full of lies, about a LIAR or a LUNATIC - or it is the TRUTH.
I believe the evidence of how the Bible came to be and about it’s extant copies available and its support from the millions of archaeological finds that PROVE the historical words of the Bible are TRUE....as well of course from the evidence of the lives of human Beings who have been TRANSFORMED for the BETTER because of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ PROVE the Bible IS the Word of God as it is claimed to be.
Therefore what s reported in it needs to be paid attention to and considered when looking at the world we live in today.
God is eternal. He never changes. This world, this universe, belong to HIM as their creator and our creator.
He has a plan and purpose for this world and for actually each of us if we would turn to Him and seek His plan ad purpose for each of us.
I have learned this from His Word.
God created people-—you and me-—in His image. People communicate with words / language. God has communicated to us through His creation, but more clearly through His Written Word (the Bible) and very clearly to all who have eyes to see - and ears to hear - through His Son jesus Christ whom we read about in HIS WORD (but also about in contemporary amcent writings of Jesus’ time).
It makes perfect sense to me that our Creator wanted HisStory communicated to the world through HIS WORD....
Well - sorry - am ready to go to sleep. Will check back in some time over the weekend if yo want to continue the discussion.
I am not saying this tornado was God’s act of judgement on CNN in Atlanta while Obama was on there and the comparisons were being made between Obama’s US hating, Jew hating “pastor” and Christians.....only God knows that fact.
I just was saying that it would not be a “new thing” for God to use HIS elements of HIS world to fulfill a purpose of His.
Wasn’t this just amazing to see? Unbelievable amount of water - and it looked like at least a foot on the floor at the bottom in the video I saw.
Those old mills were never meant to be lived in. They were cheap industrial construction in the 1880s, for heaven's sake!
They had a bad fire in the mill while they were converting it to lofts, too. I concur with the FD that the whole darn thing may just fall down.
Thanks much - I’ll put that up with credit when I update about them evacuating that building.

Turn off the power. Yikes. In one of the CNN pics a guy is walking down it , barefooted.
Fox just had a snippet on the storm. Apparently the weather service has not decided if it is a tornado or a very strong wind storm. I recall some similar wind storms here several years ago and a local weather dude used the term “gustnado” to describe the winds.
And I don't think Atlanta is particularly virtuous -- in fact two of the ones that veered N passed directly over our house. < g >
All accounts are, this was a tornado. WSB-TV has pretty good radar images of a hook echo precisely over the area where you see all that damage.
Getting the weather guys to say “tornado” is like trying to get our government to say “terrorism” ...Now if it came from the ocean...it’s a tropical storm, until proved otherwise. Go figure.
believe me this was a tornado..the storm had a hook and a b=very strong rotation couplet...it won’t be confimred until they do a survey
we still don;t know how widespread the damage was..all the media is downtown but there aother places of ATL that hit too
That must be where the pipe at the Georgia Dome came from.
That's the World Congress Center. Busted pipes, I'd guess.
More lightning out here in the Stone Mtn area. Another storm coming thru.
Water and live electrical devices just don't mix well. Scares me to death.
We were sitting in our local Thai restaurant eating Basil Duck and Three Flavor Shrimp while all this was going on.
Odd sidelight -- the City of Atlanta decommissioned their siren system about 15 years ago. Cobb County, where we live, bought it for cheap and installed it. So Atlanta no longer has a tornado warning system -- WE have it. They set it off for severe t'storms as well as tornados.
It just came through Marietta. Not near the degree of the last one.
having seen 25 tornaodes..I know the sound..you can hear it

The NWS won’t offically rule a tornado until they examine the debris field and determine the pattern of damage. And in watching the reports on CNN, the weather guy said that the storm prediction center did not have the Atlanta area in a tornado risk area.
This had to be a tornado, probably EF-1 or 2. The damage looks incredible and widespread. When the sun comes up this morning, we will see just how bad this was.
Take care and prayers to all in the ATL.
Yes, sirens and emergency broadcasts. Sirens wail when a “Watch” is declared. All local tv stations and many cable channels, also, run a ticker across the bottom of the screen.
I live 3.2 miles from the siren in my town (I’m 32 miles SE of downtown, as the crow flies-Henry County). It’s loud and does wake me up, and I sleep the sleep of the dead.
