I thought it might be interesting to see how people other than political junkies like me are reacting to the bombshell news about the statements of Barack Obama's longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Many in the media are trying to gloss it over, or suggest it is on a par with radical statements by supporters who have endorsed Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Of course, they know that is a totally false comparison. The big deal in this story is that BARACK OBAMA HAS LISTENED TO THIS KIND OF ANTI-AMERICAN AND RACIAL HATRED FOR 20 YEARS AND WAS NOT BOTHERED ENOUGH BY IT TO LEAVE THE CHURCH! Pardon my shouting, but the Mainstream Media's deliberate attempts to protect Obama are breathtaking.
Back to the purpose of this post - comments from real people! Here is a sampling from ABC News blog Political Punch, hardly frequented by radical Republicans, and I think you see many voters are "getting" the real problem for Obama in this story, even though the MSM is working hard to protect him on it. You can go over there to read many more comments:

I don't know what Obama can do now. How can he denounce and reject the support of his own pastor for 20 years? It's not like it was a little one-time slip.
It's up to the people and the media to hold him accountable for his long, intimate association with this hate-monger and this church which honored Farrakhan with a lifetime achievement award.

Its over for Obama because there is nothing he could now say except "Words".
Too bad the media didn't pick this up sooner.

if hillary attended a similar church she'd have been forced out immediately. but obamaites just keep excusing, excusing, excusing. he may even get the nomination, because of all the excusing and the media coverup of the truth about him. but the repubs will not be so kind as to hide this sort of thing. and they won't let him get away with that just a crazy old uncle b.s. they will rightly point out that he CHOSE this church/pastor, stayed there 20 years, had this guy marry him and baptize his kids, contributed 2000 per month, etc. just another of the many reasons obama is not only wrong for the country but unelectable.

girlinvt, you are so right about leaving a church that spews hatred. but obama didn't. and not only does that reflect his agreement with the pastor's views, despite his denials, but it also says something about what he's teaching his children. imagine how children's views of the world must be affected by spending their childhood hearing that sort of hate speech in what's supposed to be a place of God?

Why didn't the media report on this before so many people voted for Obama? Nobody would go to this church (which should NOT be tax exempt) for 20 years unless they liked the message. He should change his slogan from "yes we can" to oh no you didint!
I’m sorry.....I can’t handle this crap in our White House. This so called preacher is crazy and his people or followers are nuts. I can’t see a bunch of shuckers and jivers in our White House.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I just hope he gets the 'Rat nomination. I have no doubt that America will reject him in November. I just wish this had broke around Labor Day.
Wow. That’s enough to inspire me to run over to Daliy Kos to see how they’re handling this...
While McCain will undoubtedly ignore or gloss this over- it’s thinking what Fred would say about this that has me smiling...:)
“Questions will prevail such as was he in the congregation when these inflamatory sermons were give and if so. why didnt he walk out or repudiate them then.”
I suspect there may be video of Obama in church during one of these ‘sermons’. They were all video taped. I’m sure Obama would have secured a front row seat so that he could be seen by all and it would be reasonable for the camera man to want to capture a US Senator in a video.
If you’ve taken the time to actually pay attention to the background during these videos, the troubling thing is the reaction of the congregation. They aren’t walking out. They’re jumping up and down. They screaming their approval. Do you think Obama could even consider sitting on his hands during all this? Or would he be compelled to join in?
Find that video of Obama standing and cheering some of these statements and you’ll have the political equivalent of the neutron bomb. (BTW, send it to Hillary and you and I can be the new deputy assistant under secretary of something or other or maybe even the ambassadors to Jamaca and Tahiti.)
If this were a white church, all the congregation needs are some hoods and a cross to burn...
If he was anti-homo, the media would be all over him. Instead, they'll give him a pass.
I know for certain that I read that Michelle brought the Chicago Shiek to this “church” and introduced him to her “pastor”.
No No! This is the right time for this to come out. It’s going to make those “Super Delegates” really squirm over what to do. This will be especially true if she crushes him in PA.
I hope you are right. This is a Republican’s dream.
Oh yeah. The radical conservatives are completely down with John. We say radical things for him all the time.
At the very least you have to question Obama’s judgement.
I hope I’m right too but it won’t be the first time I’ve been wrong.
Just One Old Retired Army Guy to another. BTW, you want Tahiti or Jamaca for your ambassadorship?
The media is too busy throwing pictures of Spitzer’s half-naked whore on their cover, playing her myspace music and fantasizing about the Spitzers on Oprah. If we were talking about the Clinton’s pastor, I would definitely say orchestration. And it still may be - perpetuated by the Obama-loving media - to distract from this pseudo-church for their superstar.
Here’s how some are dealing with it at Kos...

This is so rich.. It’s a lose/lose situation for the DNC.. If Hillary wins the nomination, while Obama has more delegates, they will be accused of being racist(which they have always been). If Obama wins the nomination, the Hilleryites will vote for McCain now more than ever. It will be real interesting to see how this plays out.
