Washington, DCPresident Bush on March 5 at the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) called biodiesel the most promising renewable fuel for helping to meet renewable fuels standards.
The WIREC conference wraps up its four-day sessions that began March 3.
Here are a few of the ways biodiesel was highlighted.
"The legislation requires fuel producers to supply at least 36 billion gallons of renewable fuel in the year 2022," said President Bush.
"In other words, these just aren't goals, these are mandatory requirements.
"I'm confident the United States can meet those goals, and I know we must, for the sake of economic security, national security, and for the sake of being good stewards of the environment.
"Biodiesel is the most promising of these fuels.
"Biodiesel refineries can produce fuel from soybeans, and vegetable oils, and recycled cooking grease, from waste materials.
"All you out there with waste, you may be in business before you know it as this new technology kicks in.
"Most Americans -- or, more Americans -- are beginning to realize the benefits of biodiesel every year.
"Last year, we produced 450 million gallons of biodiesel.
"That's up 80 percent from 2006.
"Today there are more than 650 biodiesel fueling stations in America.
"There are hundreds of fleet operators that use biodiesel to fuel their trucks, and that's just the beginning of what is going to be a substantial change in our driving habits," said President Bush.
Equipment at the conference showed biodiesel in application.
Volvo Group, together with Mack® Trucks, featured trucks running on renewable fuels, including biodiesel, on the trade show exposition floor.
The truck running on biodiesel was manufactured in Dublin, VA.
President Bush also visited this exhibit, commenting on the "amazing joint venture with Mack and Volvo on these giant trucks that are using biodiesel to power them."
Manning Feraci, National Biodiesel Board VP of Federal Affairs, addressed conference attendees in a session yesterday.
The NBB also held a booth at WIREC. For more information, call Amber Thurlo Pearson at 800-841-5849.
O1 O2?
I agree
I do not get the 01, 02 reference ?
Please, reserves are at an all time high and more being found everyday.
I’m still waiting for antimatter.
Have you not noticed that the estimates on those same reserves, the same finds not new ones, have been doubled and tripled since the early eighties?
Show me your numbers!

Can’t you see the BS here? They are being pumped out 24/7 but still increasing all the time.
What happened to the US wells they said would never run out?
Most known large fields are in decline. They don’t pump more than they used to even as they tell us there is plenty there. Why would that be with oil at all time high prices?
These people are milking this for as long as they can because if we did know what is going to happen there would be more going into addressing energy needs in the future now. If that happened to soon they wouldnt get the crazy prices for the last oil they get out of the ground. Anything happening on a large scale like what is going on in Brazil and they lose out.
They dont want any real competition for oil until its too late.
That’s just how I see it. If you believe their numbers I hope your’e right. I’ll follow the guys that has predicted very well all the delines that have already come to pass.
The Hubbert curve (M. King Hubbert) has correctly predicted declines so I’m placing more faith in it than the numbers coming out of these countries.
OK if this is the case why is US production still declining?
I have no doubt that what you say is true. But! It's not going to take up the slack that is caused by a constant increase in demand. The only way that demand is going to fall enough is for prices to stay high enough to impact the economy negatively. It would have to take large scale conversion measures that still allowed the economy to expand.
Im sorry but I dont see that in the works here. The world economy is acting like a fungus it will feed until the food dries up then die off. It may do that over and over until we cross peak oil. But we dont have anything that can deliver the energy that oil can. I dont see people coming to understand what a world without cheap oil is going to be like.
Even if the west does start doing any of this stuff its just going to allow China India and Russia to use the oil that we save here. They are not going to do anything that is going to cost them anything near what its going to cost to get off oil.
Hmmmm. The energy density of Uranium is only about 1200 times that of oil. Not that oil isn't a potent energy source mind you, and that vast money hasn't been spent to make it the Dominant One, but there's a whole lot more of a whole lot of other stuff, even just within the Geoconstitutional boundary of the US.
when was the last time you saw some starving poor begging for soybean oil or even tofu made from soybeans?? when was the last time you heaped soybean oil on your salad??
Biodiesel is made from pressing the oil from soybeans. It doesn't prevent the rest of the bean from being eaten.

Sir,
you are absolutely, flat out wrong about biodiesel.

Yes, they can be made into diesel fuel in eight or ten years - biodiesel is NOW. How much do you think fuel is going to cost without biodiesel augmenting conventional production until you coal diesel comes on line?

but switchgrass is used for making cellulosic ethanol NOT biodiesel - there is a big difference.
also sorry about it being a viable alternative. It is right now - today you can buy 100% biodiesel and run it straight in most diesels in summertime. Maybe they don't have it where you live but they sure have it in the midwest. It has higher lubricity than the new low sulfur diesel. And if your worried about pout point add a gallon of gasoline to every 20 gallons of diesel, works fairly well down to 0 F.
I think you really need to read up on it first.

they are not being subsidized.
it is not either or they will subsidize both.
Ignorance has its price. Let 'em starve.
We were talking about organics.
Nuclear and thermal are great resources.
Iceland is going to be powered completely by thermal and hydro in the near future.
Corn to Ethanol is just silly.
If the best numbers are 1.25 out its just stupid to even try it.
From what I’ve seen it’s more like a 1 to 1 or less for the full process.
This is a farm subsidy not an energy subsidy.
