What happened to the US wells they said would never run out?
Most known large fields are in decline. They don’t pump more than they used to even as they tell us there is plenty there. Why would that be with oil at all time high prices?
These people are milking this for as long as they can because if we did know what is going to happen there would be more going into addressing energy needs in the future now. If that happened to soon they wouldn’t get the crazy prices for the last oil they get out of the ground. Anything happening on a large scale like what is going on in Brazil and they lose out.
They don’t want any real competition for oil until it’s too late.
That’s just how I see it. If you believe their numbers I hope your’e right. I’ll follow the guys that has predicted very well all the delines that have already come to pass.
The Hubbert curve (M. King Hubbert) has correctly predicted declines so I’m placing more faith in it than the numbers coming out of these countries.

I have no doubt that what you say is true. But! It's not going to take up the slack that is caused by a constant increase in demand. The only way that demand is going to fall enough is for prices to stay high enough to impact the economy negatively. It would have to take large scale conversion measures that still allowed the economy to expand.
I’m sorry but I don’t see that in the works here. The world economy is acting like a fungus it will feed until the food dries up then die off. It may do that over and over until we cross peak oil. But we don’t have anything that can deliver the energy that oil can. I don’t see people coming to understand what a world without cheap oil is going to be like.
Even if the west does start doing any of this stuff it’s just going to allow China India and Russia to use the oil that we save here. They are not going to do anything that is going to cost them anything near what it’s going to cost to get off oil.
Hmmmm. The energy density of Uranium is only about 1200 times that of oil. Not that oil isn't a potent energy source mind you, and that vast money hasn't been spent to make it the Dominant One, but there's a whole lot more of a whole lot of other stuff, even just within the Geoconstitutional boundary of the US.
when was the last time you saw some starving poor begging for soybean oil or even tofu made from soybeans?? when was the last time you heaped soybean oil on your salad??
Biodiesel is made from pressing the oil from soybeans. It doesn't prevent the rest of the bean from being eaten.

Yes, they can be made into diesel fuel in eight or ten years - biodiesel is NOW. How much do you think fuel is going to cost without biodiesel augmenting conventional production until you coal diesel comes on line?

but switchgrass is used for making cellulosic ethanol NOT biodiesel - there is a big difference.
also sorry about it being a viable alternative. It is right now - today you can buy 100% biodiesel and run it straight in most diesels in summertime. Maybe they don't have it where you live but they sure have it in the midwest. It has higher lubricity than the new low sulfur diesel. And if your worried about pout point add a gallon of gasoline to every 20 gallons of diesel, works fairly well down to 0 F.

From what I’ve seen it’s more like a 1 to 1 or less for the full process.
This is a farm subsidy not an energy subsidy.
