BAGHDAD _U.S. authorities in Baghdad have received five severed fingers belonging to four Americans and an Austrian who were taken hostage more than a year ago in Iraq , U.S. officials said Wednesday.
The FBI is investigating the grisly development, and the families of the five kidnapped contractors have been notified, American officials said on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the case publicly.

Can they tell if the fingers have been recently taken or have been in a cooler as they might be if taken from the dead bodies some time ago.
It would be easy to tell but they aren’t saying. They do seem to be working from the assumption that the men are still alive though.

Why can’t we find these hostages? After a year we don’t have some CIA operative that can pay money for some tips, or what about these fabulous spy satellites that can read a license plate on a car, or wire-taps, or making a few threats to governments who could get this info for us if they really wanted to..... I don’t know how, but as these are civilians and also another country involved, I would think at high levels things would be in action. Don’t we look like fools to have our citizens at the mercy of some dirty desert rats with probably no more technology than rifles, jeeps and a cell phone?
I’m sure this will enrage all the same folks who were enraged about hooding prisoners at GITMO, photographing them in embarassing situations.. After all that was INSULTING...
But isn’t it strange - that acts such as this and WORSE — NEVER attracts attention from the same $%#%^$#$%..
Each and EVERY captured Jihadist, murderous terrorist, militant Islamist caught with or near weapons — should be taken, interrogated by ANY means necessary and tried as a terrorist, spy or murderer — then SHOT.
