Dr. Laura: Women Share the Blame for Cheating Men. (See, it's mostly her fault).
MSNBC ^ | 3-11-08 | Mike Celezic

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has never been one to shrink from controversy, and she leaped headlong into one on Monday when she said that if a husband cheats, his wife may share some of the blame.

“When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings, sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs,” the popular psychologist and radio personality said.

More commonly known as just “Dr. Laura,” Schlessinger made the remarks while participating in one of several panel discussions on TODAY dealing with the breaking news that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been connected to a high-priced prostitution ring.

So admitting that it’s not a bad idea to consider your husband’s needs and desires is self-loathing? Aren’t men supposed to consider women’s needs? Is that self-loathing as well?

but I sincerely believe her to be a deeply self-loathihg female,

I don't know about self-loathing, but I do believe she's one of those women who tries to garner men's approval by either trashing women in general or saying things like "I've always had more male than female friends." (We've all heard that old chestnut.)

...which is Kiss my !ss ;) if you don’t like me getting older.

Hey, you can't have it both ways ;-) Man, and I just went to confession too!

Seriously, I think there are realistic expectations and unrealistic ones. Frankly, as I get older and my girls get older, attractive young, sexually aggressive, women kinda freak me out, while I find more and more beauty in my aging wife. I'm accepting that as a gift from God.

Seriously, where did you get this?

Observation and acute listening. When a woman dolls up, its for the ladies.

Have you ever seen a man that gives a rat's behind whether two women are in the same dress, or whether another man is wearing the same shirt he is?

Have you ever heard a man say, "I can't believe she is wearing that?" (lycra on 300 pound women excepted)

Why can women tell you what every other woman was wearing at a party that occurred two months ago?

In other words, a woman hater, and someone who sees all women as rivals. Florence King wrote about her type in “Southern Ladies and Gentlemen.” To paraphrase Miss King, Laura is the type who is always sticking the stiletto in the ribs of women (metaphorically speaking) and undermining them, but in such a way that men never pick up on it.

I once met a very, very nice man whose wife left him because she was self-conscious about her own weight issues! Left him for a man closer to her [larger] size!

What a maroon!

"Dr. Self Righteous Indignation speaks!"

It was a happy day in my life when WLS-AM canceled her show about 7-8 years ago. Sad and often very pathetic people call her show and she beats them over the head with a battle-axe. Soft-core sadomasochism.

Exactly. Though I'm not sure it's a case of men not being able to pick up on it so much as men -- some men -- liking it. Not in a well-thought-out way, of course, but they like the gist of it.

Some men prefer women to be more like them, and a woman who makes a point of saying, in essence, "I'm not like those silly women, I'm more like a man" is making a play for that kind of man. (The Seinfeld kind of man. Remember that episode where Jerry says he's in love? "I've found what I've been looking for my whole life. ME!")

We all knew her in HS, didn’t we?

And wasn’t there a scene like that the last Stephanie Plum novel?

(ex-philandering hubby talking about new GF)
“You know, Joyce is nice, she’s not a b!tich like you.... you could learn things from her...in fact, maybe you could learn to do your hair like her....”
(just before Steph was on top of him banging his head on the concrete)

We are Stephie-—
Dr. Laura is Joyce ;)

My wife used to listen to Dr. Laura everyday, and I listened with her a few times. All I ever heard was Dr. Laura pleading, no, insisting that women stand up for themselves, respect themselves, and not put up with lazy, cheating men. Is there another Dr. Laura that I am not aware of?

Dr. Laura has counseled thousands of couples in this situation. Based on listening to her talk to people on the air, she has an uncanny knack for knowing things before the callers reveal them. I have been stunned on many occasions at her insights into the psyches of modern dysfunctional Americans.

Some would argue that Dr. Laura is a hypocrite based on her own life and the gross things she did. In my opinion, "it takes one to know one." Her past is what makes her such a keen and honest observer of destructive behavior in relationships.

No, the way “Dr.” Laura talks to women on her show, the verbage in her books, they way even the women’s advice sections are clearly there to scold the bad girls... her overall treatment and attitude towards other women. She treats her gender with scorn and contempt.

The woman is vile.

Well, for one thing, we have a far keener eye for detail and a better memory for detail. And those two factors make detail more interesting to us than to men, I suspect.

Have you ever asked yourself why a woman would ask a man something like "Do I look fat in this?" Think about it. My post #203 to Edward is a good starting point.

It’s not totally a crock.

Some women can be bitches and make their husbands feel like dirt, less than a man.

Men need a LOT of positive reinforcement. It may seem phony and unnecessary but women should do it anyway.

They will reap great rewards.

That being said, this does not excuse the behavior, but it might explain it a little.

Not really. Most of my married friends essentially got sex cut off within 1-2 years of getting married.

I never understood comments like this. For me, sex didn't begin until marriage--and I have absolutely no complaints since then.

LOL! Good point! I never met the woman. She was already gone when we met this guy at the American Legion. Such a nice man.

Yes, you missed a lot. The woman is a shrill harpy. I think the earlier post about masochism is right. It is the only reason women familiar with her style would call her. They are gluttons for punishment, and Laura gleefully dishes it out, call after call after call. It’s sick.
