Bristol, the shortest track on the Winston Cup circuit, also has the highest banking, making for an appealing combination for driver and spectator alike. Added to the schedule in 1961 and resurfaced from asphalt to concrete in 1992, Bristol's attendance has increased from 18,000 to well over 150,000.

Always look forward to the Bristol races. Hope the wheather is OK this weekend. Since I have friday off I can watch the practice and speed trial sessions.

I always heard there has been talk of a Tennessee-Virginia Tech football game at the Bristol racetrack (I geuss they'd put a football field inside the race track). That would be quite a scene.

Who will win? Well, it’s hard to bet against Shrub right now but I’m thinking his aggressive style and his new found success will undo him. I predict he won’t finish the race.

I’m pulling for Newman. I know his record at Bristol pretty much sucks but a Newman win is my prediction. And to further my chances for humiliation I’m predicting he will do it from the pole!

Wonder how much longer Spring/Nextel are going to sponsor the races, with that last $29B write down and a the company is worth half of what it was when Sprint bought Nextel, sure wonder how much longer the CEO can convince the shareholders to pay for it.

Anyone got a idea or a thought?

If you could handpick the the sponsor for the series who would it be?

For the record..... a comment on the recession.

I left the East Tennessee area for the week end.

I returned on Monday and after I turned on I 81 South off I77 from North Carolina, I met a steady stream of powerful trucks pulling gooseneck trailers. I did not count them, but there were lots and lots of them.

These were the race fans heading home. Diesel at #.89 and gas at #.++ did not deter the NASCAR fans from hauling their rig to Bristol.

If there is a recession
