NEW YORK New York Republicans will seek to impeach Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer if he does not resign within 48 hours, New York Assembly Republican leader James Tedisco told FOX News exclusively.
"We believe it is an illegal activity he has been involved with," Tedisco said speaking on FOX's "Hannity & Colmes."
"We're going to give him 24 to 48 hours to do the right thing, and the right thing is to resign because he has been compromised. If that's not the case ... we're going to ask the speaker to start impeachment proceedings," Tedisco said Monday night.

It doesn’t matter. The girl was part of an organized prostitution ring (illegal) and was transported across state lines for that purpose (also illegal). In addition, the ring seems to have international connections. The big cheese in the ring holds an Israeli passport, and in fact the judge ordered his passport (and a huge sum of cash he had lying around) taken away so he couldn’t flee the country.
In other words, Eliot was playing with internationl organized crime. Furthermore, he seems to have been spending his money in such a way as to hide the transactions (aka, money laundering). Seems odd that somebody who had been the public prosecutor, etc. would do that, but he was just so arrogant after having taken down threats against America such as Martha Stewart that I think he felt he was untouchable.
“...I think he felt he was untouchable.”
well, they did call him Eliot Ness
*snort*
I wonder what bank Spitzer used. Apparently, it was the bank and the good ‘ol IRS which tipped off the Feds. The IRS was concerned that Spitzer was being blackmailed or was involved in some criminal activity. The Feds obtained a warrant to wiretap Spitzer’s personal cell phone. This was a very big deal and was targeted on Spitzer, personally. I imagine that Spitzer’s security clearance, etc., prompted the action.
The wiretap led to the discovery of this international prostitution and money laundering ring.
Not Eliot Ness... But it IS Eliot’s Mess!!!
Where did you go? I really don’t know many dems sites but ones I have peeked at have potty mouths!
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil. Abortion,same-sex marriage, legalize prostitution. And don’t think the child molesters are not looking to get in their some way. People believe you can control evil!
Amen to that...
That’s precisely why I take satisfaction from the ass kicking this clown is going to get...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 8, 2008
Today, we join with the rest of the world in celebrating International Women's Day, a cornerstone of Women's History Month. On this day, the world recognizes the unique struggles and significant achievements of women...
Ahem, but it's YOU who is history now, Mr Superdelegate.
They need to play The Beatles’ “Revolution Number 9”, with the “Number Nine....Number Nine....Number Nine...” over a loudspeaker at the governor’s mansion, until he resigns.
He was certainly “celebrating” women last month!
Drinks were on the house at the pub I tend bar at yesterday.
HOO-YAH!
I feel the same way!! He is a lawyer and was suppose to CLEAN up crime. Although he did go after a prostitution ring! You can’t make this stuff up! $5,000 for sex and the dems keep saying we are in a recession!
One sentence in the NY Post article today stated the bank account was “non-personal account” and appeared to have a government or political link.
So it may well have been taxpayer or contributor money and not Spitz’s.
that’s how he’s paid!
Spot on. Heck the NY Press would cart out the rationale that since the Republicans did not demand for his resignation (or else impeachment) they would say, "See, even the Republicans don't believe this rises to an impeachable offense." This is similar to the US House or Senate Republicans putting forth a vote on whether to remove the troops or not from Iraq. It puts the ball in their court. And I'm sure after 24 hours of this being discussed the NY Pubbies came to the same conclusion that you noted.
That's a hoot. I guess those fools think he was "set up" 7 or 8 times, and still had cash left on his account.
I think either one of 'em would be happy with his votes. Hillary has already come out with a statement saying something to the effect of this being a private matter between him and his family. The Beast and the Steamroller now share a strong bond.
You do have a point. I'm always surprised at the creativity of the media and their ability to nuance the left out of a jam. Good tag line.
