NEW YORK — New York Republicans will seek to impeach Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer if he does not resign within 48 hours, New York Assembly Republican leader James Tedisco told FOX News exclusively.

"We believe it is an illegal activity he has been involved with," Tedisco said speaking on FOX's "Hannity & Colmes."

"We're going to give him 24 to 48 hours to do the right thing, and the right thing is to resign because he has been compromised. If that's not the case ... we're going to ask the speaker to start impeachment proceedings," Tedisco said Monday night.

He should be impeached. But he won’t be. This is just another one of those efforts to call attention to his illegal conduct.

Right on que this morning, the liberal talk radio and news are running “Prostitution should be legal and regulated by state governments.” story lines. One especially insane liberal caller said that child prostitution and abuse would never happen because if brothels are regulated by the government, it would be like working at a mall store like the gap and nobody ever gets beat up working at a gap store. Its lunatics like this that remind me why I’m a conservative.

Never liked the guy...He made himself sound like the "perfect man"...the "perfect leader"...It was just something...something in his eyes

Go with your guts...they're probably right.

A blatantly immoral governor...A blantantly immoral X-president...

I hope the Dems "blind" followers will wake up. They've been duped and will be duped AGAIN if they vote for either of the two "Socialists" running for prez.

It's “power uber ales” with them. Nothing else matters.

SOP for Dems. James "The Snake" Carville on Larry King was absolutely flabbergasted that Spitz's predicament was even an issue. That satanically tongued piece of sh!t was basically saying 'who amoung us hasn't had a little daliance on occasion'? What a bastard! Irony in this world has gone the way of the dodo bird.

This is pointless. Let the Democrats call for his resignation. They’re playing right into Spitzer’s hand.

I agree. If we have learned anything, we should have learned that unless Democrat voters who put the guy in office want him out, nothing will happen. Republicans will just get lied about until the whole thing blows up in their faces. It shouldn't be that way, but that is the way it is. New York is liberal. If they want a law-breaking governor and their procedures allow it, I'm inclined to not push this one. Give them rope and let them hang themselves. Then when time comes to oppose them in front of the public, remind voters how the Democrat didn't think the laws applied to him.

In the meantime prosecute him like any other citizen. You would think the embarassment of that would cause the Democrats to call for his resignation. But then many things that should embarass liberals, don't.

In my state I don't think any politician could survive this. There wouldn't even be a question about it. But we are talking about New York. He will have powerful media forces supporting him, especially if they think Republicans are on the attack. So just don't attack. See if they clean up their own mess for a change.

He’s probably trying to cut some kind of deal to keep whatever he can. But it’s a federal rap, so it gets complicated I would imagine. And I bet this isn’t a one time thing this guy has done. I feel bad for his wife and kids. But in the end, his wife will leave him and get half or more of what he has. Either way, he’s screwed for getting screwed.

The era of "mulligans" for politicians has to come to an end.

No, only our "celebrities, politicians" and "the rich" get those perks.

It seems to me that politicians and law enforcement people should get EXTRA penalties because they are in a position of power and have betrayed the public's trust. Instead it's the opposite. And it pisses me off!

I jumped for joy when this broke on Foxnews. As much as I despise the New York Slimes they deserve some props. Gee, that was tough giving the Slimes credit. I just wish I was at the corner of Wall and Broad Sts. to hear the howls of joy at the flattening of the steamroller. I truly can't stand that man. He makes me sick. For the record freepers: don't blame me, I voted for John Faso. The 70% of the morons in this decrepid state that didn't, I hope they all move to New Jersey. Idiots.

I had to go to DU to read the reaction to this news. Heads are exploding in DUmmieland and it is more entertaining than anything I have read on a message board.

I haven't been there in years, but I do know the rats eat their own alive when they do this to them!!! HA HA, I'm sure they have all turned on him quite readily!

WRONG! If Repbulcians don’t say anything this whole thing is forgotten in a week, including on “ultra-conservative” FOX.

What’s that old saying about when ‘good men do nothing’..?

From the New York State website:

ELIOT SPITZER was elected governor by the people of the state of New York on November 7, 2006. Today at noon, he will be inaugurated as our fifty-fourth governor.

In a speech he delivered on election night, Eliot said: “In a Spitzer administration, the road to responsive and responsible government will begin on Day One. It is a promise based not on false hopes or foolish pride, but on a simple notion of government that has been lost amid the bickering and partisanship of the last few years: the idea that if we work to give everyone the same opportunity — that if we ensure everyone plays by the rules — there is no limit to what we can achieve as a people.”

It is this promise of change and this vision for new governance and a brighter New York that we celebrate today.
