An explosion has been reported in central Stockholm. Police confirmed on Sunday morning that a bomb squad was at the scene and that no casualties had been reported.
Neighbours reported to police early on Sunday morning that a large explosion had rocked the area around Surbrunnsgatan 4 in central Stockholm. Twenty windows were blown out as result of the blast.
According to Eva Nilsson at Stockholm police something exploded under a parked car.
"To the naked eye the car is in principle intact."
A large area was cordoned off by police after the explosion, and Surbrunnsgatan was closed off between Birger Jarlsgatan and Valhallavägen.
Neighbour Ann-Charlotte Egmar says she was woken up by a large explosion around 7am.
"I ran to the window to see what had happened and saw a white cloud on the street. I was scared and wondered if anyone had been hurt. We rushed downstairs to see."
"Police wondered if the device had maybe not fully detonated."
Egmar has now been evacuated to her son.
"Residents that have gone out will not be able to return home until bomb technicians have analyzed the events in detail," said Eva Nilsson.
(Although it doesn’t say in the article, it was reported by other medias here in Sweden that the car was a XC90)
remember that ad about this exact thing? only thing new is it is a volvo, glad no one got hurt... this time. you reap what you sow and they are in for some tough times over there.
“remember that ad about this exact thing”
- No, I don’t. What car was it?
Anyhow, I’m glad it wasn’t my Volvo, although my magnificent V70 probably would’ve survived a ridiculous little bomb like this too.
Thanks for posting!
That “ad” is my alltime favorite. That sucker should have won some type of award!!
“”To the naked eye the car is in principle intact.””
Just to be safe the guy likes to double qualify.
Me too, that’s how how I posted it so fast...lol
Takes a while before I stop hitting the replay button!
Any Danish cartoonists hiding out in Sweden?
.
I'm not surprised.
For nearly 25 years - my family drove Volvos exclusively....
When Ford purchased Volvo — we switched to Lexus....
Now I wish we had switched earlier... but all our Volvos right up to the two 960’s we owned were fine, reliable and good values.
