The mother of the man charged with killing Auburn University student Lauren Burk said her son was an Iraq war veteran who was changed after his service, and she offered an apology to the freshman's family.
Burk, an 18-year-old from Marietta, was found shot on the side of an off-campus road Tuesday night outside Auburn, and her car was found burning in a campus parking lot.
Williams told the television station that her son hasn't been the same after serving 16 months in Iraq. She says her son had been living with her in Smiths, Ala., since returning from the war. Smiths is outside Phenix City and about 30 miles southeast of Auburn.

Hmmm, I didn’t see anything about a father for this thug. I believe mama was the ultimate culprit. She raised a bully she couldn’t contol and all of the sudden he was a nice kid after he murders and robs.

But no official account of his military record had been released by authoritiesHow do we even know this jerk ever saw COMBAT ???
I'd be surprised if the Army let this Lockhart get anywhere near weapons. More likely he served as a supply clerk or truck driver.
I'm also surprised at all the people here ready to jump on the "PTSD" bandwagon.

That is why I stopped watching shows such as “Law and Order” and the rest of that type.

Remember hearing about or reading about all those nuts after WWII who went on rampages and murdered people? Neither do I.
To: MIchaelTArchangel
You’re not alone, at least when they are defending them or making excuses for the horrible crimes they committed.

I’m not at all surprised.

The ny slimes tried to slander our Troops with this lie a few months ago. Statistics show that Vets who serve are much less likely to commit murder.

Is this one of those situations you were just trying to explain to me, where he couldn’t help but crack under the pressure, because soldiers have it so rough? What was it you called that, basic psychology 101?
This guy must have missed the PTS rehab you said our soldiers have to go through before they can return home. Or maybe it just wasn’t enough for such an extreme case.
Shed some light on this, for all us ignorant saps who don’t believe our soldiers are all a bunch of nutcases.

This has been a old problem:
There was a old Willie and Joe Cartoon from after WW2. Willie read from a newspaper” Look Joe, The Newspaper has a story about a axe murder. Police said there was NO veteran involvement

Yes, and it has always made me mad, even as a kid when my Dad had retired and people were so derogatory about VN vets. My Dad wasn't a drunk or a psycho. He was (and is) a good man who did his service to his country, raised 4 kids and lived a productive life. But, that doesn't matter to those who don't mind lying to further their political agendas....

I was born in ‘73, the year we took our ball and bat and went home for the most part. Growing up, the crazy murderous bastard on every TV show was invariably a Vietnam vet. I was inculcated to the point where I believed it. Growing up and knowing a number of vets has since changed my views, but as a kid I believed all Vietnam vets were messed up and capable of the most hanous violence toward citizens. It will be tough to watch the media do this to anouther generation of soldiers.

Actually, drivers see more combat than anyone but infantry these days.
More than likely he got busted violating General Order 1 bravo, and instead of going along quietly, he punched the NCO who caught him.

Your post is 100% fact free. ‘If’ a fraction you grabbed out of the air is no basis to do anything. There is probably more psychopathology in the gay community than among combat vets. Want some statistics?

Brace yourself, the media and their pals in the left are doing it again. They are just getting warmed up. Read a book titled "Stolen Valor." By the way, we are from the same generation and I know waht you mean about the media depiction of Viet Nam vets. I have never known one who was a psycho killer. I have known some who have had really hellish dreams, but are otherwise very well adjusted and live normal and, often very calm lives.
