Hell, maybe women do fare a lot worse in Islamic culture than they do in other faiths. I’ve just never seen any hard evidence to support that claim.
You haven’t seen any “hard evidence,” Joshua, because you haven’t looked.

It’s a constant source of amazement to me that self-defined “liberals” like this will make excuses for the most illiberal societies, and look the other way as women are ruthlessly oppressed by a belief system from the Dark Ages.
But I bet this lib would be the first to jump up and say that Christian women are treated worst of any women in the world.
Then, I mentioned that to a few liberal women at my grad school, as we studied Mid-East culture.
It was the early Tali-ban days. They hated Bush, but they set me straight on how they viewed this type of treatment.

The campus Left, which is still organized for the most part by students and community activists, increasingly finds itself up against conservative strategists who put as much as $20 million dollars a year into building a conservative student base.

Yep, all those white Christian men always beating their wives before they rape them. If only all those Christian ministers would stop telling them it’s OK and...Oh, wait.
Agree with them. Then advocate that women be treated as cattle, be subject to genital mutilation, be barred from any political power, be barred from speaking to non-related males or going out without a related male present, be barred from driving, and to have their testimony count as being worth 1/4 of the testimony of a male. Support each of these with quotations from the Koran. And then wave the flag of multiculturalism in their face. Then listen to the crickets chirping...
This is a big reason why I joined the GOP in 2005.
The progressives say they respect religious minorities, women, the rights of homosexuals to live unharassed, a secular society, liberal democracy, and tolerance.
Then they go out of their way to side with the most extreme of the anti-Semitic, right-wing, gun-toting, pickup-truck driving, gay-killing, women oppressing, imperialist, despotic religious fanatics on this planet.
It dawned on me that Islamic Supremacists and socialist radicals distrust and hate the same things— free markets, self-government, and individual initiative. Since the nihilist left only defines itself in terms of what it hates, most of them see no contradiction in their behavior.
I do give credit to socialists like Christopher Hitchens who at least have the decency of being logically consistent.
Hey Josh, give me a call next time you’re in DC and I’ll let you try on my burka.
