McCain, Republicans, and "Global Warming"
town hall ^ | 3/9/08 | Austin Hill

Think you can sidestep the issue of “global warming,” simply by voting Republican?

Think again. Now that Senator John McCain is officially the Republican nominee for President, global warming is, whether anyone likes it or not, an “issue” for both of our nation’s dominant political parties. McCain has been gravitating towards this issue for several years, and made his mark with it during his chairing of the U.S. Senate hearings on global warming back in 2004

Staggering in its implications.

Yes... but not in the way of catastrophe that these folks in Washington would make us believe. I'm reading through some of Lieberman's other press releases. If I see anyone on FR call this guy a "moderate" again, I might blow a gasket!

(snip - from Lieberman October 22, 2007 op-ed)

This week, John Warner, R-Va., and I introduced America's Climate Security Act - a bill that will meet those goals - along with a bipartisan group of co-sponsors.

With all the irrefutable evidence that climate change is real, dangerous and proceeding faster than many scientists predicted, this is the year for Congress to move this critical legislation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - the worldwide consortium of scientists that shared the Nobel with Vice President Gore - concluded there is a greater than 90 percent chance that greenhouse gases released by human activities including burning oil in cars and coal in power plants are causing most of the observed global warming.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service identified a warming climate, and the resulting melting of sea ice, as the reason polar bears may be threatened as a species. The U.S. Center for Disease Control's National Center for Environmental Health cited global warming as the largest looming public health challenge. And President Bush called global warming a serious challenge that we need to confront.

Indeed, if we fail to start substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the next couple of years, we risk catastrophic damage. Insect-borne diseases such as malaria will spike as tropical ecosystems expand; hotter air will exacerbate the pollution that sends children to the hospital with asthma attacks; food insecurity from shifting agricultural zones will spark border wars; and storms and coastal flooding from sea-level rise will cause mortality and dislocation.

Our bill works in several ways to reverse the destructive impact of global warming.

The greenhouse-gas emissions cap in the climate security act covers electric power, transportation and manufacturing sources that account for 75 percent of the these emissions in the United States.

In addition to tightening emissions cap standards annually on electric power, transportation and manufacturing sources, the climate security act increases energy efficiency requirements for appliances and buildings in order to curb commercial and residential emissions that are not covered by the cap.

It is NOT official. Half the delegates accounted to him aren't pledged. In Mn. they aren't even chosen yet and they're being put in his column.

Indulge me in a thought experiment. Say McCain has a break down and shows up at the convention dressed only in a diaper. Do you think all the delegates accounted to him will vote for him?

Polar Meltdown. Sounds something like McCain's response to a Ron Paul economics question.

Polar Meltdown

Sounds like a name for a rock band.

Al Gore on lead guitar.

Mike Huckabee on bass.

Bill Clinton on sax.

Barack Obama on air guitar.

John McCain on cow bell...

“No. It is not official until the convention votes.”

LOL!!!

No one else is running. They all dropped out. McCain has reached the magic number - even surpassed it.

IT IS as OFFICIAL as it can get.

Get real!

The GOP is stuck with McPain in the arse as the GOP nominee. The formality doesn't make it more “official”. It already is official without the pomp.

It’s a technical point I admit but I still insist I’m right.

Okay - be technical.

You would perk me up a bit if there was a way to get rid of him ... and get a conservative in his place. Any possibility of that? ;)

I was responding to someone else who said it is official that McCain is the nominee and I agreed that it is. You say that half of the delegates accounted to McCain are not pledged. I did not know about that, but seems McCain is the presumptive nominee for all intents and purposes. But then, what do I know? Guess strange things can happen. Believe me I would love nothing more than to have McCain flub up royally and be knocked out of the nomination as long as he was replaced with a conservative like Fred or Romney! Just looks like McCain is it for us, so I will hold my nose in November and vote for him over Hillary or Obama. :)

The only possibility would be if enough disaffected republicans make enough noise, and polls started showing McCain in serious trouble, the party would look for a stand in. I don’t really see that as likely but since he’s not the OFFICIAL candidate anything COULD happen.

That’s why it’s imperative that we vote in as many Conservatives to Congress as we possible can!

I know there are McCain voters on this thread. Please tell me why you would vote for this liberal.

Don't cite to me a dedication to national security. The most egregious dictator in history of any country believes and is dedicated to his national security.

Do you really believe that he won't institute a national health care?

Do you truly believe he will nominate conservative justices to the courts, not to just he SC but to any federal court?

Do you actually believe he will keep America sovereignty intact and resist the move to regional government leading to a global government?

Those the unclear positions that McCain takes.

The clear positions he takes are submission to the global warming fraud, the opening of borders to those who have no personal stake in American culture and way of life, regulation of air wave transmission through the "equal time" doctrine thereby effectively silencing conservative talk radio, silencing popular criticisms of candidates within the critical time period before an election (McCain-Fingold) and the general attitude of transferring more of the sovereign choice from individuals to the federal government.

Why would you vote for this man? To keep the democrats from winning? Well, vote for McCain and the democrats have won.
