A longtime Republican district fell to the Democrats Saturday when a wealthy businessman and scientist snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election. Democrat Bill Foster won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis. With 565 of 568 precincts reporting, Foster had 51,140 votes to Oberweis' 46,270.

What I think might happen... enough democrats vote for McCain that he indeed doesn’t need the conservative vote anymore.

OK, so Foster truly only has the seat until November, then he has to run for re-election? Maybe Oberweis can get someone else than Denny Hastert to campaign for him. He needs to run AGAINST the sitting Congress, not be pushed by someone who is part of the budget problems. Or, even better, they need someone new altogether who can run against the Democrat leadership, which is putting this country in danger of another terrorist attack.

Visited your Freep page.

Buckely,Reagan and pastrami?

You certainly have a predilection for the well done if deceased.

Finally a worthy newcommer—not a McCain hack nor a liberal Democrat posing as a McCain hack—both, strangely, posting the same crap about HAVING to vote for the jerk-thus,more or less, convincing the more principled conservatives to NOT vote for McCain.

Foster will only serve until November when he will be up for election again. If Hillary is not the nominee, we will be so screwed.

And more fallout from the Stupid Party’s manipulation of McVain into the driver’s seat. What Conservative will even bother going out to the polls on a cold day to support such a party?

We Republicans need to suck it up and get used to this. November is going to be a massacre. Sorry to be so pessimistic but the handwriting is on the wall. We’ve lost our country. That “new direction” the “media” keeps telling us about is the path to Socialism/Communism.

Yes, the Communist Manifesto has basically become complete. I pray for my kids & any that they may have. Presidente Booosh & his adopted bro, Bubba, have sped the elite world take-over at geometrical speed.

"This was me and millions more in 1978. Take heart."

I agree ... but we're not supposed to repeat ourselves every 30 years.

A lot of damage was done while I 'woke up' ... and discovering FR in 1998 was the defining moment when I looked in the mirror and knew I was a conservative and I wasn't alone.

1998, my first computer and a world of folks that thought like me ... Good Night!, We were gonna' save America !

Did I fail?
Did you fail?

I knew we were useless as a force when those thousands of healthy guys (I was working, and My wife had died from cancer 7 or 8 months before .. I was a dangerous basket case) ... DID NOT storm the hospital in Florida to rescue Terry Schiavo.

I wonder how many of us really will shoot the local cop that comes to confiscate our guns?

God has written "Ichabod" over the house of America.

(I tremble as I write these words ... and have re-read them many times before hitting the 'post' button)

Good grief, what a drama queen! It’s only lost if we believe the carp flung by the MSM every day. Quit listening to the nattering nabobs of negativity, work hard for Conservatives running for Congress, and vote AGAINST whichever Democrat gets nominated.

Short term future kind of looks bleak right now.

Oh yeah. The country is screwed in November, in way too many ways to go into now. It's going to be a long 4 years.

If conservatives truly are not careful enough, then it’s going to take even longer than 4 years for U.S. conservatism to make any kind of serious comeback if it truly makes any kind of comeback at all!

We can’t afford a president Obama or Hillary but we also can’t afford to not push McCain to the right.

I voted for huckabee to send mccain a message and was all ready to accept mccain once he clinched the nomination, but someone convinced me that we shouldn’t let mccain off the hook unless he can show some tangible proof he won’t turn the GOP into a moderate mush.

“The magic has vanished.”

What if Reagan had given up on the GOP in 1964? Think about it - not only did the GOP lose in a landslide that year, but they also were dominated by liberals like Nelson Rockefeller and NYC mayor John Lindsay.

Things are not that bad today. And I don’t think the differences between the parties could be greater - on domestic spending, Iraq, national security.

I only say 4 years, because I believe with the Congress and Senate already in the hands of the Rats, the country will see how screwed up we’ll be after either Mrs. Clinton or Barak Hussein Obama has 3 years to aid and abet the thugs on congress.

Dennis Hastert Kitteh thinks it's pretty darn dark.

Dang! Are you sure that's not Teddy Kennedy Kitteh? The pinkness of the bloated stomach is a big indicator.
