What follows is a transcript of my recent interview with former Texas Senator Phil Gramm. Mr. Gramm boasts a long, distinguished, pro-growth track record. Currently a UBS investment banker, Gramm has long been a steadfast supporter of free markets, a staunch free trader, tax cutter, budget cutter, and entitlement reformer. He also happens to be GOP presidential nominee John McCains chief economic advisor. As a recent piece in Fortune magazine put it, [Gramm] is the ultimate pure play in free market faith. I remain quite confident that Mr. Gramm would help steer a McCain presidency in the right direction.
Kudlow: Senator Gramm, it is wonderful to see you. Senator McCain said a while back, I dont know as much about the economy as I should. Whats he trying to tell us on that?
Gramm: Well, first of all, hes trying to tell us that A, hes honest, and B, hes humble. How many people know as much about the economy as they should? Certainly I dont. I think you can make a strong case that of the three people that are still in the race, that John McCains got a lot more experience on economic matters. But one thing I think that makes him a leader that I feel confident in, is that hes the kind of person that reaches out to people, that listens to both sides of the debate, that gathers the facts, and that tries to make the best decision he can. And I think hell do that on economic matters.

For later. Always interesting to hear what Phil Gramm has to say.
“McCain’s Economic Brain” — that phrase is making me laugh. Akin to a dinosaur brain?
Cute. What happens if Phil isn’t there to help Juan? What does he do then? He’s already admitted (and later lied about) that the economy is not his strong suit.
Do you know who Dr. Juan Hernandez is?
McCain sure does! And yet he keeps Mr. Reconquista on his staff all the same and directs his "maverick" angst exclusively toward the conservative base.
The worst part is that McCain and his liberal RINO supporters think that vacuous liberal is somehow entitled to our support just because he has an 'R' by his name. Feh!
Yes the guy who looks like “The King” on the Burger King commercial.
I can smell a whopper now, yummy! I am getting hungry now.
Burger King makes better hamburgers than McDonalds, but I don’t eat them since I am a gym nut.
I was thinking the conversation would be succinct and at a very elementary level.
I would have thought you a “Taco Bell” kind of person.
Why? I don’t eat junk food.
Give me a one armed economist!
McCains Economic Brain
............
here is a quote from his Real Economic Brain: Dougy holtz Eakin his main finance guy:
Douglas Holtz-Eakin concluded the session responding to a question on whether the Bush tax cuts of 2001 pay for themselves. They dont pay for themselves, said Holt-Eakin. No tax cut pays for itself.
Thank you, Perdogg!
BTTT!
Bump for Saturday reading.
