Thanks for taking time to pass along more tips,
nutmeg. I appreciate it.
I finally did learn how to mostly search.
Searching for titles is still confusing to me
and I don’t know if I’m truly getting accurate results
by searching for title:article when I want to post
a new thread.
I tried your tip to leave the top right search
box blank and hit go ... and it brings up the
same search format you get at the bottom of
the page.
What I miss THE MOST and really want to see
back is the simple search dropdown box for title,
poster, or keyword that we used to have at the top
of the Forum front page.
That was a breeze, and I’m not understanding why we
would get rid of that effective tool and replace it
with additional confusion and steps.
Hopefully, the tweaking continues ... ;)

I think I'm pretty much squared away on the drill now, thanks to freeper friends, Nutmeg and Syncro. A friend in need is a friend, indeed. Thanks, guys.
I still don't care much for these changes, though. And think about the newbies trying to figure out what to do. WE know what to do, but they don't. I'm afraid they'll just drop out.
It was fairly easy to dope out what to do when I joined up almost 10 years ago and even a computer dope like I was able catch on very quickly because features were clearly marked. Now, the "search" box doesn't even say "search".
Good luck to all potential and/or newbie freepers who are not on the "inside" of how to navigate.

I agree, an Edit/Delete button for the original poster of a comment could be used to fix a lot of oopses and duplicates.

I'm glad I could be of some help
As far as this statement:
And think about the newbies trying to figure out what to do. WE know what to do, but they don't. I'm afraid they'll just drop out.
Possibly so, but for newby noobs, that haven't signed up yet but will in the future, I think they will have just as easy/hard of a time (they can take their pick lol)learning the ropes as we did when we signed up last millennium.

Yeah, John agrees that this little search box is not working out all that well. He’s on the road now but says he’ll work on it tonight.

I”m far from a newbie, but am certainly a puter illiterate. Still can just barely navigate this site. Every change has me stumped til some freeper gets me partially back on track. This recent change seems to have come through in a MUCH smaller font. My 75 year old eyes rebel after a few minutes of reading. Is there any way to enlarge the font?
To: John Robinson
Good work, I like it. I haven’t figured out how to use every feature, but I will be working on it. I appreciate your efforts for all of us.
To: upcountry miss
You can enlarge the font size by clicking on view in the upper left of IE, and then on text size, and make it larger.
Some people say this doesn’t enlarge the text size in the sidebar, but it does for me.

Try it now. John set it up so that when you click on the search box it’ll open up a pull-down. Enter your search data, make your selection, and go.

Where is the "upper left of IE?" What's an "IE?" And can I make everything go back to a more normal size?
Thanks.

I agree that an edit button is just asking for trouble and duplicity. No paper trail for anything.

I think he means Internet Explorer, assuming that that’s the browser you’re using.
To: Syncro
It worked!!!! Thank you so very much. Knew some freeper would come to my rescue.
To: Jim Robinson
John set it up so that when you click on the search box itll open up a pull-down. Something is wrong or maybe it's just my computer but I can barely read Keyword, User, Title and (I think it says "Yahoo"?) in the search box. It's like bottom portion of each word is missing.

The Font size for me is huge on poster’s comments and then the title of each article is tiny on the Latest Posts page. Ugh! Maybe it will get better.

Thanks. I use Web-TV for Free Republic only. Maybe the new configuration doesn't work as well on it.
Nuts.
Is the variety of fonts I now see intentional, and are some of these fonts supposed to be really big?
I see two fonts even in my own reply after I hit preview, the second paragraph being larger than the first.

I second the logo/banner concept! Technically as each person loads the home page the logo/banner would be cached so bandwidth consumption should not be an issue.
Just take this one and "splash" FR across it diagonally - after tastefully removing the "Support FR" layer?
