What do you think? Suggestions, comments, complaints?
That may be the case
If it is working correctly, you can still click on news/activism on the sidebar, and put into the search box
by:syncro
And get a page with all of my article posts.
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:syncro/
Then click on "comments" at the top of the page, and get all of my comments.
I would imagine because of the consensus of posters here, that the by:syncro, or what ever poster name, will default to comments instead of articles.
When you arrive at the second stage you find the old, familiar search is there just as it was.
I think if instead of putting
posts-by:johnrobinson
You type just
by:johnrobinson
You will get a page with all of John's articles posted
Then click on "comments" and you will get all of his comments.
I think some of your other concerns are answered Here
Some noob figured it out, who'd thunk it LOL
Those who post dup threads know who they are. Those who rely on the beneficience of technicalities to burn bandwidth without actually posting dup threads but doing it in spirit know who they are.
I decided not to use it on the sidebar either, it's redundant IMO to do so. Sorry about steering you off the path somewhat
Jim's answer was awesome, his couple of posts on this thread answered a lot of questions I had

When I go to the search and put in by:Syncro I get the exact same thing. There is no Comments tab.
I am using a HP Pentium 4 with Microsoft XP. and my browser is MSN Explorer. What are you using?
This has become very frustrating for me.
No need to bring me into this...
(Stolen from streetpreacher)
I still can't figure it out.

That’s easy. The reference was to the hugh amount of dup and closely related threads lately. Most of the duppers are from a relatively small group of regular thread posters. I stopped posting threads several years ago because it is likely that any thread worth posting has already been posted. I use search a lot to find old closely related threads that something can be appended to, usually to do with the Space Shuttle and ISS rather than burning bandwidth with totally new threads all the time.
Well...I’m not one to tell the owner how to run his site. So...if I’m a little inconvenienced while I learn the new system, I guess I’ll get over it.
They have decided to do that?
I think they will run into trouble with the video embed thingie. The mods will be kept busy looking for inappropriate videos that can be watched on the thread in which they are posted. Just IMO.
As far as the edit thing, my take on that is that the edit function is in the post comment area, and should be accomplished there.
If there is an edit function, I think it should be severely time limited.
Some statements should not be able to be "taken back" at a later date so a nefarious member can not use the "I did not say (fill in the blank) on this forum" clintonian defense
Good information, Jim thanks.
And your explanation of what rss is and it's purpose cleared up a lot of my misconceptions about it.

Can you help me out? I have a HP Pentium 4 with Windows XP and the browser I am using is MSN Explorer.
Not quite, it doesn't have "by poster" or "by keyword" in it anymore.
Those functions can be found in the other search window.
I had a nice chat with Jim Robinson last night... he taught how to deal with some of the new (and admittedly very cool) features. I'm over my "panic" now, and am excited to see the new system unfold.
Thanks for your help, and thank you for your wonderful prayer threads, FRiend! :o)
No, that’s OK... thank you for your help as well, Syncro! Yes, JimRob’s instructions last night really helped... I’m convinced now that there really ARE very cool things happening with this latest system update! :o)
Second stage is the old first stage.
Ok, this “by:jimrobinson” seems to work. Use a colon not a semicolon and no spaces.
Jim Robinson gave me some invaluable instructions on how to deal with the new system last night. Please do a search on my or Jim Robinson's posts to see his comments:
Type this in the search box (upper right): by:JimRobinson
Then click on the "Full" tab to see his full comments.
Two other good tips I learned last night:
Search by TITLE (I think right now it sorts on KEYWORD only, which is a pain): Type in: title:Nuptials (I was looking for the Nuptials for the Warrior Nurse thread)
This is a good one: Delete all wording in the search box (you probably see posts:* there now) and hit Go. (In other words, make the search box blank and hit Go.) You will be pleasantly surprised to see the old FR search box that we all know and love, with the drop-downs.
