WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon has banned Google Earth teams from making detailed street-level video maps of U.S. military bases.

A message sent to all Defense Department bases and installations around the country late last week told officials to not allow the popular mapping Web site from taking panoramic views inside the facilities.

Michael Kucharek, spokesman for U.S. Northern Command, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the decision was made after crews were allowed access to at least one base. He said military officials were concerned that allowing the 360-degree, street-level video could provide sensitive information to potential adversaries and endanger base personnel.

which idiot allowed them to even film ONE base????

Did 9/11 not happen to everybody? How is it that some people are still living in 2000? (other than the democratic president candidates, who need to do it to win their nomination)

When I was taking FAOBC (Field Artillery Officer's Basic Course) one of the mock targets we fired at was, "Survey team in the open." The point was to select the correct ordinance for the target.

The instructor told us, "We take a dim view of the enemy's trying to map our territory."

If they want to be useful they should map Waziristan.

Area 51 exists but its only a cover for the real secret bases. Like that one in Mexico. I mean who would look for a top secret American military base in Mexico?

The correct answer was shell HE, fuze VT.

No need to fire a million dollar missile to hit a camel in the butt.

That’s about it.

It’s ever so much funner to drift around in a cloud of dubious smoke and/or mental fumes, imagining that you are on a moonlight walk beside a meandering stream.

Grown-ups have to deal with real threats in the real world.

Children waft through a harmless universe populated only by benign beings.

"Congress should act against this immediately!"

I agree 100%. Waxman and Conyers should issue subpoenas post haste. Anyone who refuses to testify will be held in contempt.
