To the GOP's self-righteous Purists

If there's a single thread that runs through the e-mails I receive from peevish Republicans, it's that none of the current candidates possesses the conservative purity of Ronald Reagan. One could almost get the idea that Dutch was betrayed by Pontius Pilate and crucified on Calvary. But that wasn't exactly the case. The fact of the matter is that Gov. Reagan gave Gov. Jerry Brown a run for his money – or should I say our money? – when it came to raising taxes here in California. But, in spite of the additional revenue, he was responsible in large part for the streets of our cities being turned into public latrines by the unwashed, the unwanted and the insane when, to save a few bucks, he oversaw the closing of California's mental hospitals. He also signed the nation's most liberal abortion bill. Although he had a change of heart a scant six months later, one never hears him condemned for flip-flopping ...

What truly confounds me are those cuckoos who would prefer to see such socialists as Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama win the election than to sully themselves by voting for a Republican who was only their second or third or even fourth choice. To them I say, before proving that you place your own ego gratification above what's best for America, keep in mind that most of the Supreme Court justices are in their 70s or even, in the case of John Paul Stevens, fast approaching 90. Do you really want one of those two Democrats stacking the Court for the foreseeable future? Presidents come and go, but justices go on seemingly forever. Kennedy and Scalia have been on the bench since Reagan put them there. Stevens, for heaven's sake, was appointed during the ...

I won’t take any chance of allowing Clintobama to become the Commander in Chief of our troops. Never. Everything else will be pushed to the side to be sorted out later.

In my humble opinion, you need to vote for the lesser of two evils

And in my loud-mouthed opinion, continued voting for the lesser of the two evils will only allow that evil to nourish and manifest into greater evil. Sure it won't be as bad initially as the greater evil, but it's still evil, and it'll still get us to the socialist destination regardless.

"Conservatives who refuse to vote for McCain need to read this article."

I think his bigger problem is the majority of conservatives who, although they will hold their nose and vote for him, won't be motivated enough to write a check for him.

Bullcarp. That was the ACLU that did that. The ACLU argued successfully that these mental patients could not be held against their will unless they posed an imminent danger to themselves or others. So they all left the hospitals and many of those Hospitals closed their doors.

No need to worry. I have it on excellent authority that Juan McCain will either win with conservatives voting for him, or without them. Therefore, there simply isn't any logical, rational need for conservatives to flush their integrity and principles away on behalf of a candidate who not only openly disdains them, but (as the link provided above baldly states) doesn't even NEED 'em, really and truly.

I, for one, find myself greatly relieved by all of this, quite frankly. Thanks for the reassuring heads-up, Team Juan! WOO-Hoo!

You are the epitome of irrationality. Rush always says that liberals act on emotion, but that is exactly what you are doing if you sit with your thumb in your rear end and do nothing to stop Hillary or Obama from becoming POTUS.

I like people that even lean to the right. Still you are right, Burt's far from being a strong conservative. Especially if his starting point is Rudy he shouldn't’t lecture conservatives on anything.

He should vote his mind and let us do the same. A novel concept these days it seems. That's what I don't get, we are seemingly not allowed to disagree with these guys.

To the GOP's self-righteous Purists

Didn't get past this ridiculous title. A little news flash here...primaries are supposed to be an opportunity to find the best candidate within the party, not to look for the worst possible compromise of one's values...well, at least for any party other than the republicans.

The dems aren't worried about compromising to find a viable candidate, Obama is the further left of all 100 senators and Hilary isn't too far from there.

“People who claim to be conservative and *refuse* to vote for McCain need to realize that, although McCain has done some admittedly dumb things, he has an 82% lifetime conservative rating according to the American Conservative Union. They know a thing or two about conservatism.”

When I took the Foreign Service Exam, 82% was a failing score.

Campaign finance restrictions are the worse offense against freedom of speech in the history of the Republic.

He won’t veto anything that the Hildebeeste or Obamalamadingdong wouldn’t have vetoed. The only thing that happens in a McCain presidency is that evil gets the cover of a Republican administration.

I’m no McCain lover, and I’m voting for him.

No problem Jeff, thats what I suggested in the first place. I noticed you are not telling me who to vote for. That's my point.

Regards

Bingo. These so-called “conservative” who are willing to foist Hillary or Osamabama on the troops are disgusting.

If Juan McCain doesn't really want the job then I don't think he should have it. If he wants the job, he will recognize that he can't win without AVID support from the grassroots conservatives. He'd better pick a solid conservative VP, or its all over.

he just tells his opinion.

He is a talk radio host; an entertainer. He never had to make any big decisions. He’s not an economist or a constitutional scholar. He’ has a very fun show but I wouldn’t listen to his show for the ‘truth.’

Perhaps you should read what Jim Robinson wrote before posting this tripe:

McCain gets conservative grassroots support when...

"Mr. McCain, if you want my vote, you're gonna have to earn it. Unfortunately, I doubt you're up to it".

Sound more than fair to me.

A few weeks back somebody was pressing Pence's Contract with conservatives.

Wonder where that stands?

But, I'm voting for McCain. I have a son in uniform and I'm not going to give Democrats the chance to hand us another Vietnam.

A party whose only slogan is:

OUR SCUMBAG — NOT AS BAD AS THEIR SCUMBAG!

deserves to be destroyed.
