WASHINGTON -- Rolling Stone is backing Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president, the first time the music magazine has endorsed a contender for the White House during the primary.
"The reason for the early choice is twofold," the editors explain in the publication's upcoming issue. "Undoing the damage of the disastrous Bush years will take a leader who can unite a deeply divided nation, and politicians with gifts like Obama's are so rare that it's imperative for each of us to do our part."
The magazine has endorsed presidential candidates since 1972, beginning with Democrat George McGovern. Other recent candidates include Democrats Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry.
"Obama has emerged by displaying precisely the kind of character and judgment we need in a president: renouncing the politics of fear, speaking frankly on the most pressing issues facing the country and sticking to his principles," wrote Jann Wenner, the magazine's editor and publisher.
Wenner called Obama's rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton, a "capable and personable senator," but criticized the way she has run her campaign.
"Her campaign certainly proved her experience didn't count for much: She was a bad manager and a bad strategist who naturally and easily engaged in the politics of distraction, trivialization and personal attack," Wenner wrote.
Obama appears on the magazine's cover next to the headline, "Barack Obama: A New Hope." In the image, his pose his Superman-like and an aura surrounds his frame. The issue hits newsstands Friday.
Like Ellen Degenerate said “It’s only a question of WHICH Democrat to endorse”
I don't blame you and I'm in the Gen Y age bracket (I'm 27). If the Gen X'ers could live to be about 150 or so so that my fellow idiots don't completely take over, that would be fantastic.
What about Denzel?
I need to know.
P J O’Rourke was the only political writer worth a damn in that magazine. The letters to the editor seem to be written by extremely angry leftists with p** and vinegar in their veins.
I saw Obama dance with Ellen on her show. The sad thing is, Obama acts way more white than even Mitt Romney.
I remember that...I think algore was showing his shortcomings in a clever way.
Oh, well, he’s so groovy. Heh. After he’s nominated by the Democrats, Hillary’s supporters will vote against him or run around complaining about “women being disenfranchised” again. But if he could be elected, the conflicting Democrat special interest harassments might lead him to what people once called “a nervous breakdown.”
I think you are kind of in the very late Gen X generation....but you are right, much of late Gen X and Gen Y groupings are all dumbfounding me with their philosophies.
will take a leader who can unite a deeply divided nation

Who says Republicans would follow that turkey’s lead?
I think he was padding his assets.......
I know, I read articles all the time how women are conflicted about voting for Hillary or not because “their time is now” and they are squandering it by voting for Obama. I just want to say, “hey ya fat libbers, stay home on election day, please.”
I think 90% of us Republicans see a wolf in wimp’s clothing with obama.
that’s the one......check out the phony packaging......he’s a fat tub now
What does acting white mean, anyway? If you’re talking about dancing, when is the last time you saw an Asian dance? Much less sing worth a plug nickle?
Some of these stereotypes just baffle me sometimes.
I know, he is now truly “Fat Albert”.
I saw an Asian guy dance at a club I was at recently. Great 1970s dancing style. All the ladies wanted to dance with him.
