An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

I saw Peach at gopachy.com.

Why exactly do you think it's appropriate to push an anti-FReeper site that derides conservatism by saying that the GOP should be a "big tent" on FR?

FR doesn't allow advertising for books, movies, etc., so why should it allow advertising for a website that is pushing an agenda that is totally contrary to conservatism?

If McCain picks Crist, I’m joining a convent.

Perhaps a convent with a dairy that makes cheese. :-)

What if we have them pay fines, and back taxes and put them on some sort of pathway to freeper citizenship. That wouldn't be amnesty. Would it?

LOL!

It’s easy. Anyone who was banned or asked to have their accounts removed should stay banned or removed.

Folks who didn’t get themselves banned or removed but just took a breather for the duration, well, nothing needs be done there, either. They can return at their leisure.

Dear sitetest,

What you say makes sense.

Think American Idol has nothing to do with conservatism? Let’s kick the people who post on that thread out.

Now that you mention it..

You’re too kind. The longer I read this thread, the more I realize how much better this place is without those who were banned.

The more I read this thread, the more clear it is that this is just a ploy by FRiberal anti-FReepers (many of the unbanned ones are in here pimping their anti-FReeper sites) to wreak more havoc on conservatism.

You may well be right. Anyone visiting those sites can see fairly quickly the hostility toward FR.

Peach had been pro-abortion for a long time, she was trying to say that Reagan was pro-abortion. Jim warned her that she was going to be banned if she continued and she did. The only "overreaction" was on the part of Peach's disbelief that conservatives don't like liberalism regardless of party affiliation.

Peach stated very clearly on the thread that she was not pro abortion. Perhaps her position is not so black/white as you want to believe. It's kinda hard to reconstruct the entire conversation since so much of it was removed.

My primary interaction with Peach was on the live threads where she would detail the news conferences for us cubicle prisoners. She was always pleasant and helpful, and above all supported conservative positions. I don't recall a live news conference covering abortion, so that particular position may not have come up in my interactions with her. I may not know her as well as I think I did, but I would not have accused her of being liberal.

None of her posts were removed. She and the other harpies were totally opposed to the pro-life position and that is why they were so delighted when Rooty Toot came along. Conservatism is made up of a belief in a strong national defense, fiscal and social conservatism, Peach believed in ONE of these and that's it.

Giving a blow-by-blow of a news event does not make someone a conservative, it makes them a transcriptionist.

None of her posts were removed.

When I performed a find user search for Peach yesterday and came across "that" thread, following the posts back hit numerous removed posts. I can only assume they've been restored since then.

But assuming that the point is to show Peach deserved to be banned, I can't say I disagree with that decision. But it's a shame that we've decided that we have to absolutely agree on every issue.

Waited until this morning to reply..thanks to all who opined. First, it's nice to see that on what is still a very contentious issue, a fairly civil dialogue could occur. Thanks to those who supported the idea, and equal thanks to those who disagreed..they made cogent argument. So, maybe we've all learned something.

Permit me a few points, since I started the thread...

I agree that "amnesty" was perhaps a bad choice of words..(g)I wasn't advocating that per se, Jim Rob can set whatever conditions/requirements he wants, and allow only some to return..and of course some of those no longer here may choose not to return.

I merely wanted to raise the issue, elicit some response, and gauge the sense of many Freepers about this. To that extent, I believe the thread was worth while.

Now that the nominating process is over, I personally would be open to that..but it’s not my site..I mean, if the Dems can redo TWO primaries...we can give some folks another chance..
