Obama mentioned among documents recovered by Colombia from slain FARC leader Raúl Reyes

Article has the last "letter" from Reyes to the FARC. Below is the relevant section talking about Obama followed by my translation;

6. The gringos will ask for an appointment with the minister to solicit him to communicate to us his interest in discussing these topics. They say that the new president of their country will be Obama and that they are interested in your compatriots. Obama will not support "Plan Colombia" nor will he sign the TLC (Colombian Free Trade agreement). Here we responded that we are interested in relations with all governments in equality of conditions and that in the case of the US it is required a public pronouncement expressing their interest in talking with the FARC given their eternal war against us.

Who are the “gringos?” Obama staffers?

Maybe the same Obama economic adviser who so disastrously briefed the Canadians, did the same with the FARC!

He pardoned guys from the FALN not FARC. I am sure, however, he would have done that also if possible.

If NYC had as many Colombians as it does Puerto Ricans, he would have.

I've looked through the Colombian web sites to find the full text of this letter reported either on a government-sponsored site or a Colombian news media site with no success. I would especially like to see it on the El Espectador newspaper site, but have not yet found it there.

If anyone can verify that the text of this letter is reported from an official Colombian source -- and let me be clear that I tend to believe Martha Colmenares is reporting truthfully here -- please let me know via a ping or Freepmail.

This is important. It implies that Obama is getting support from cocaine traffickers in a way not entirely dissimilar from that which the Mexican leftist presidential candidate of 2006, Lopez Obrador, received.

I really want to see the official copy here. We can make REAL hay out of this document if it's authenticated. Just let me get my hands on it and I can circulate its importance via the Venezuelan bloggers, many of whom I have corresponded with in the past and who know that I have done their resistance movement a favor or two in my translations postings.

And just so you know, I'm writing Martha Colmenares and asking for the official source citation.

Sorry for the immediate double-ping, but I just saw the El Unviersal English link above and that IS authoritative.

Never mind the official citation, I've got what I need.

Was posting that, yeah I have sources to the letter from El Pais and El Tiempo (http://www.noticias24.com/actualidad/?p=12551)

The El Tiempo link has all the letters we know about so far, in the original Spanish. Glad there is a translation now by el universal, noticed NRO just picked up on the story.

Although in English I think it appeared here first on Free Republic.

NRO is reading it wrong, again “gringos” in this context means “The Americans” I think. Not a group of Americans Raul met with.

I don’t get your post “thanks for the Ambush”?

Vetted? Is there a problem with the story I posted, are you questioning the translation?

I think you have asked the $M question. They may be socialists outside of Obamas’s staff, such as staffers to Pelosi, Reid or other lefties in DC.

No ECLA, i was asking if anyone knew if you were a troll and this was a Pro-Hillary post. Since you signed up a few weeks ago. But, since you have been responding to posts it would appear you are not a troll.

No problem with the translation.

Re your #89 above ...

Regarding translation of "gringos," I think you are correct that it only refers to as-yet-unidentified "Americans," at least that is the way I always remember Colombians using the term. By my recollection, they didn't even apply it to Canadians. But I also want to point out that the FARC has a history of supplying campaign cash to foreign candidates so as to influence the outcome of elections in their favor. Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and Nicaragua have all had elections in which FARC contributions have become an issue, especially the Mexican presidential election in 2006, a subject on which I posted several threads from translated sources here at FreeRepublic, but especially the following (these are pop-up links):

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1730311/posts

And since you evidently read Spanish, the Mexico City newspaper El Universal wrote a lot on the Chavez-FARC-Lopez Obrador connection:

http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/315945.html

Since the entire effort to undermine Mexico was obviously to protect the international cocaine pipeline to the U.S., why shouldn't the FARC also contemplate going right to the end of that pipeline and getting some help there? Campaign cash is such a necessary component of politics in the U.S. that it might not be so surprising as one would think that the FARC has found a way to funnel funds into the Obama campaign.

I'm going to get all over this soon. You will hear from me.

The message certainly implies a link with some US person. I’m not suggesting sending in any Plumbers, but this would be an area for legitimate intelligence agency inquiry.

No, but Raul Castro endorsed him yesterday!

If you are referring to the attempt at satire that Mr. John Semmens posted yesterday in the article Raul Castro Endorses Obama, that was in fact false. Everything from the AZ Conservative website is authored by Mr. Semmens as satire, not fact, although the content is usually based on actual news stories.

What is true is that Fidel Castro had indeed expressed his belief in the strength of a Clinton-Obama ticket back in August of 2007: Castro: Clinton-Obama ticket 'invincible'.

Mr. Semmens, could I ask you again to please label your attempts at satire more clearly? For instance, you could place in the title a comment in parentheses to the effect of "Raul Castro Endorses Obama (AZConservative Satire)".

The United States has invested a great deal—nearly $5 billion during the past 7 years—to help stabilize Colombia. A more peaceful, just, and stable Colombia is undoubtedly in our national interest. It is imperative, however, that greater peace and stability contribute to a reduction in the flow of drugs from Colombia to the United States. Thus far, we have not seen the kind of drop off that the effective pursuit of our interests demands.

President Bush’s closest ally in the region—Colombian President Alvaro Uribe—is embroiled in a controversy that has led to the arrest of eight of his supporters in the Colombian Congress and his former confidant and former chief of Colombia’s secret police for ties to the country’s narco-terrorist paramilitaries. President Bush must be careful to keep the pursuit of U.S. interests in Colombia distinct from specific personalities, or personal relationships. The further consolidation of legitimate governing institutions in Colombia – and the extension of their reach throughout Colombia – are clearly in the national interest of the United States, and the interest of Colombia.

There is no doubt in my mind that obama is evil to the core, but I am still not voting for a liberal republican come November.
