Obama: Sermon on Mount Justifies Same-Sex Unions

By Terence P. Jeffrey

CNSNews.com Editor in Chief

March 03, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told a crowd at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, Sunday that he believes the Sermon on the Mount justifies his support for legal recognition of same-sex unions. He also told the crowd that his position in favor of legalized abortion does not make him "less Christian."

"I don't think it [a same-sex union] should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state," said Obama. "If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans." (See video here) St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans condemns homosexual acts as unnatural and sinful.

Obama the preacher! So much for Sola Scriptura. Every christian is his own magisterium.

Vatican Document On Homosexual Unions

“Homosexual unions are totally lacking in the biological and anthropological elements of marriage and family which would be the basis, on the level of reason, for granting them legal recognition. Such unions are not able to contribute in a proper way to the procreation and survival of the human race. The possibility of using recently discovered methods of artificial reproduction, beyond involving a grave lack of respect for human dignity,(15) does nothing to alter this inadequacy.”

CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING PROPOSALS TO GIVE LEGAL RECOGNITION TO UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS

Barack said: "On the issue of abortion, that is always a tragic and painful issue," he said. "I think it is always tragic, and we should prevent it as much as possible ....

Please Senator Obama describe why you think abortion is ALWAYS tragic? Could it be because you are ALWAYS destroying human life?

His decision in the Illinois senate on abortion should tell every American what type of person he is. Any politician after looking at a partial birth abortion and can still support it has no conscience.

Uh, Barry, you do not have the slightest clue of what you are talking about.

Of course not. But he's also mirroring the sentiments of a number of mainline Christian churches.

If he answers any other way than YES, then he is an antichrist and false prophet.

The antichrist will be a master deceiver. Of course Ameoba would answer yes.

Even Jefferson’s New Testament, where he physically cut out all the “Supernatural stuff” includes the statements of morality. Jefferson would be dumbfounded that a candidate for president would support sodomy.

If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans."

My previous posts looked at the first two parts of the Sermon on the Mount, which is covered in Matthew 5 through 7. This post will address the next portion of the sermon.

Matthew 7:

1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.
2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
6 Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'
23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Jesus gives some very strong admonitions in this chapter. First, he condemns hypocrisy. Many people look at the "judge not lest ye be judged" part of the comment and view that as license for all of our sins to be exempt from human judgment. (Perhaps those six words out of this three chapter sermon are the inspiration Mr. Obama finds so instructional.) The problem is you have to keep reading beyond those six words. He makes it very clear that our judgments must be righteous. He is not excusing perversion of the law with these words, but rather condemning hypocrisy. Furthermore, he immediately follows that up by saying do not give what is holy to dogs nor cast pearls before swine. In other words, don't attribute God's holiness to those who reject it. Then, He tells us to ask, seek, and knock. He commands us to seek a relationship with Him, praying and searching His Word for answers. Then He concludes His sermon with a warning against false teaching and an admonition to be discerning (in other words use righteous JUDGEMENT) to avoid being deceived. In light of Mr. Obama's comment about looking to the Sermon on the Mount rather than "an obscure passage in Romans" I would tend to agree, and I think the conclusion of the sermon, as given in Matthew 7:13-27 is a very appropos assessment of Mr. Obama's statement.

I couldn’t find the Sermon on the Brokeback Mount that Barak was apparently referring to, but the sermon in Matthew 5-7 does not support Obama’s position.

I agree that Romans 1:27 is not obscure; in fact, the unavoidable directness of this passage is what makes it problematic for supporters of the gay agenda:

"...the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."

Can't get much clearer than that.

However, I disagree with the assertion that "To call any part of the Bible obscure is blasphemous."

You'll have to bring up St. Peter on charges of blasphemy, then, because he said (2 Peter 3:16) that some of Paul' letters are hard to understand. He says also (2 Peter 1:20) "Know[ing] this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation."

So we know this from Scripture itself, that Scripture is sometimes difficult to understand, and was not written for private interpretation.

That's why we have the Church: to give us the foundation we need to understand the truth.

It's hard keep up with Obama's evil, misguided rewriting of the gospel.

Regarding Obama's "justification" of same-sex unions, Obama needs to take the cellophane off of his Bible and read Romans 1:25-27. This passage tells us that same-sex sexual relationships are a consequence of idolatry. In other words, such relationships are a consequence of disobeying the 1ST COMMANDMENT, a major aspect of the GREATEST COMMANDMENT, to love the jealous God with all your being.

Homosexuals need to keep in mind, however, that the good news of the gospel is not about how God despises same-sex sexual relationships. In fact, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 indicates that certain members of that church had been slaves to such relationships but had been cleansed in Jesus' name. So these former homosexuals had evidently repented and accepted God's grace to straighten their lives out.

Wait, I think you’re missing the point.

It said “lie with”. That doesn’t mean sex, it means telling falsehoods and since they want to take all Male/Female references out of the Bible, it real means don’t tell tales to your friends. God couldn’t really be chastising something that feels good to a liberal, right?

Get it? /s/

Sermon on Mount Justifies Same-Sex Unions

This guy is out of his mind!

God sees same sex “unions” as an abomination.

Doesn’t the Obomination KNOW THAT ?

What Bible is he reading?

Even the Koran frowns on that ... atleast I have been told that. Am I wrong about the Koran on this topic?

Aren’t we honored to have someone like the Obomination straighten us out about “gay unions” and killing our babies is also Biblically correct. Gee, so glad we have a minion of Satan proudly running for President and proud of his antiBiblical stances.

Heaven help us!

Rom.12:2

[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The Obomination should understand what he is really doing ... but then again ...

The Obomination has decided that it’s worth selling his soul for power and noney ... .

Matt.16:26

[26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
