Their religious beliefs are antithetical to democracy, freedom, and the U.S. Constitution.

We’re not going to change, so they better.

I watched on FOX News also....and those lazy clowns could not be bothered to give us the name of the lady who performed the Christening ceremony.

I would guess the wife of Gov. Spitzer - or Mrs Bloomberg.

Anyone know for sure?

True but they are expert at using these values to their own ends. They call them stupid but useful. Useful fools...???

My problem is that we are naming an amphibious ship after a state. State names should be reserved for cruisers or capital ships.

State names should be reserved for cruisers or capital ships.

Right now they're primarily used by submarines.

SSBNs (Boomers) and SSGNs are capital ships. SSNs (hunter killers) are not capital ships. I'm all for naiming them after cities or people.

I’m pretty sure this vessel is named after the City of New York.

Once fully commissioned, this is what she will look like...the USS New Orleans, LPD 18:

This is a new class Amphibious Assault Ship, a Landing Platform Dock (LPD). The USS New York is the fifth ship, LPD 21. The first four were the:

USS San Antonio, LPD 17
USS New Orleans, LPD 18
USS Mesa Verde, LPD 19
USS Green Bay, LPD 20

....should be one of those moments in time when she sails up the Hudson. The thoughts give me chills

(sadly, ya think she’d be welcome in San Fran?)

From the FOX news article at the link:

The USS New York, an amphibious transport dock ship, is 684 feet long, can top 24 mph, and holds a crew of 360 sailors and three Marines. It is expected to be based in Norfolk, Va.

THREE Marines????????? What kind of Amphib only holds THREE Marines? As an old 'gator sailor, I know the Marines are GOOD, but building a 684' ship and staffing it with a crew of 360 sailors seems to me a bit excessive for THREE Marines .... LOL

The three Marines spoken of here are those permanently attached to the ship-the Combat Cargo Officer, and two Combat Cargo Assistants. The are the primary liaisons between the ship and the embarked troops.
