This is really something:

"As your President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws," he wrote. "I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples -- whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage."

and this too:

"While some say we should repeal only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether," he wrote. "Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does."

Anybody still wondering why he was ranked the most liberal member of the US Senate by the National Journal? Supporting the repeal of the federal DOMA is tantamount to supporting gay marriage (which he disingenuously claims to oppose).

This is yet another one of many reasons why we must support John McCain and do everything in our power to block Barack Obama, who claims to 'bring us together', from winning the White House. This man is downright appalling.

but somehow, McCain is worse, and we really should not fight against Che Obama as, well, we need to toss the whole struggle of the last 15 yrs overboard..

My fellow Conservatives can be shockingly short sighted...

I do believe Obama would slaughter a baby on television to prove his Liberal credentials.

The Democrats would go wild and fall into paroxysms of ecstasy.

There’s lots of dissembling on the gay marriage issue. On the one hand, Obama and Clinton say they oppose gay marriage but then want to disable the law that prevents federal recognition of same.

If the Defense of Marriage Act were repealed, that would pave the way for 50 state gay marriage, because the gay activists would go to court and demand recognition of Mass. marriages by the federal gov’t and all other states. If Obama or Clinton are elected, that’s as good as done because they will appoint liberal judges who will impose this on the country. First step, repeal DOMA, second step, appoint liberal judges, third step, file the lawsuits to force same sex marriage on everyone.

Does McCain remind anyone of that other candidate on the Michael Douglas as The American President movie?

Wasn’t that Richard Dreyfuss.

He and Hillary Clinton have worked for months to get the votes of the homosexual community, even appearing in August at a historic Democratic presidential forum devoted solely to homosexual issues.

On the Republican side, all the then top-tier candidates snubbed the Values Voter's Debate. Ah, but the winner of that debate is still standing, Mike Huckabee.

Wanting the repeal of DOMA proves what a phony argument the left put forth against the Marriage Amendment. States' rights? Ha! If they were for states' rights they would want to keep the DOMA. They just keep shifting their arguments. First it is about privacy. Now it is about public recognition and benefits. At one moment it is about states' rights. The next moment they want to repeal the DOMA so they can force all states to recognize homosexual marriage. Truthfulness means nothing to them.

It is interesting how far left we have all come. In 1996 most of the Democrats didn't dare not vote for DOMA. Today, the Republicans are running from traditional Judeo-Christian values and can't form a decent argument for our side if their lives depended on it, even though nature, reason, commonsense, and history are all on our side. Where will we be in another 12 years?
