Will the "Willie Effect" Impact the Election?

Some speculate the controversy could cost McCain the White House

By 700WLW News

Thursday, February 28, 2008

( Cincinnati ) -- Some reports claim the on-going controversy involving 700 WLW talk show host Bill Cunningham (Willie Cunningham) and presidential candidate John McCain has the potential to impact the results of the 2008 election.

Ohio is a key state in the presidential election. For Republicans it is essential that they win as much support as possible in southwest Ohio to counter the strong Democratic party support in the Cleveland area.

Political Science professor Jason Johnson from Hiram College spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer and told them John McCain needs radio talk show listeners and Willie fans to go his way, "John McCain needs those people if he has any hope of winning in November."

With other national talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity rushing to Willie's defense, it widens the rift between the party's conservative base and John McCain even further, at a time when the Republican party has only recently started to solidify around the likely nominee.

It will be interesting (assuming Tom wins the Congressional seat) to see how “vociferous” he is in the House.

“That’s right ... all of us.”

Who is this “us” of which you speak, Republicans or Conservatives?

If you had half a brain, you’d realize that that is precisely what we ARE doing! The power of the post, “my friend”!

We aren’t talking about the world, Dane. We’re talking about SW Ohio. SW Ohio is the key for a republican winning the state of Ohio. There has never been a successful Republican candidate who did NOT win Ohio.

Sure, McCain might be the very first.

But, he won’t win Ohio WITHOUT SW Ohio. And he has injured himself in SW Ohio....and that is the analysis of a political-junkie professor at a local university. And that is the article that leads this thread.

Pure logic. Try to follow it.

You can call it "logic" if you want; as for me, I typically try just not to step in it.

Everything Bill Cunningham said was factual. The kool-aide drinking media has built a wall of political correctness around their Obamessiah, and McCain has bought into it.

Don’t dare mention Obama’s middle name. That’s “racist.”
Don’t dare mention his connection to the Chgicago political machine and to Rezko. That’s crass.
Don’t dare mention his church and its pastor. That’s private.
Don’t dare mention his connections to Farrakhan and to the
now tenured domestic terrorists of the 60’s. That’s guilt by association.

Cunningham said last night that we’re going to have to take four years of pain (Obama) before we can have a conservative revival. John O’Sullivan has said the same thing in National Review.

Nice try, Eva!!

Truth IS...Suckabee is NOT a conservative and he DOESN’T have the base—he has only evangelicals. He is quickly becoming a non-issue in the race. It’s over, McNasty will be the nomineee. But Suckabee’s playin’ it like the little boy who can’t admit defeat. That certainly isn’t going to produce respect from the base!

I don’t think I said that Cunningham would win in a landslide in SW Ohio, because this thread is about John McCain running for office and damaging himself in SW Ohio.

Cunningham probably enjoys his media career. He sure acts like it.

I wonder why John Wayne never ran for national office?

Who knows, but Ronald Reagan did, let Bill Cunningham put his money where his mouth is.

Your power is meaningless, you are way overrating yourself, the internet political junkies, and talk radio. Recent event proved it.

Who is this “us” of which you speak, Republicans or Conservatives?

I'm speaking of "us" as in the U.S. An Obama presidency would, at best, be a repetition of the Carter presidency ... though I suspect it would be far worse than that.

McCain is nowhere near my ideal candidate. But in comparison to the damage President Obama is likely to cause, McCain looks pretty damned good.

It's my observation that "conservatives" like Mr. Cunningham are so caught up in their own emotional state that they apparently fail to consider the alternatives in an adult way.

Dane, every thread on Free Republic is preceded by an article.

This one states the obvious: a republican win in Ohio requires a win in SW Ohio.

It is STANDARD KNOWLEDGE in every election that the SW corner of Ohio (Cincy metropolis) counter-balances the NE corner of Ohio (Cleveland metropolis)

There’s nothing liberal or conservative about it. It’s simply the way it is.

Judging by the quality of your posts on this thread, one gets the impression that you’re a pretty insipid fellow. Not worth any more of my time, certainly. Have a nice life.
