NYT: MCCAIN'S BIRTHPLACE IN CANAL ZONE RAISES ELIGIBILITY QUESTIONS...
Virginia was a British Colony until 1775 so I guess Washington and Adams were in violation of the Constitution? /s
I've noticed that about a number of their recent doozies -- more so than ever.
The NYT is showing some serious ignorance, but I guess it’s just another day at the office for them.
I raised the point about possible semantic gymnastics because, although McCain is a "citizen by birth", he is so because of a law. He would not have been a citizen at the time of the constitution, but laws enacted later gave him natural birth rights.
I asked if some would attempt to argue that he be regarded as actually a "citizen by law" because of this.
Non-Sequitur kindly answered my question Here.
His answer was that it would be difficult consider McCain anything other than a "citizen by birth", thus he fulfils the constitutional requirement.
I didn't thank Non-Sequitur because the thread had run it's course, so, although belated, thanks for your taking the time to answer my question, Non-Sequitur.
Didn’t the NYTimes endorse McCain? You would think they would have known this before endorsing him.

Bill clinton did not get any big liberal laws passed.
I think it takes 2/3 of the House and Senate and 3/4 of State legislatures plus 3/4 of states through ratifying conventions. am I right?
beat me to it...
I'm sure they know there's no such thing - an American Born citizen is an American Born citizen. The ONLY gray area is if you happen to be a Republican
“Panama was AMERICAN TERRITORY at the time.”
Wrong..
Panama has always been a country. Perhaps you are thinking about the Canal Zone being American territory. The Canal Zone was leased for 99 years from the country of Panama.
....Bob
You are hilarious troll.
“Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution” oovers Washington and Adams (indeed, the first 10 U.S. Presidents were born prior to the adoption of the Constitution)
Well.....I was born in Alaska in 1951...my father USAF stationed in Anchorage..on a USAF base....mother also a US citizen....but since Alaska was a US Territory at the time I am considered a US citizen
Now....my younger sister was born in Manchester England in 1956 when my father was stationed at an RAF base there...when we returned home she became a US citizen....by going to court and proclaiming her choice for citizenship here...all at the age of 5..lol
shhhh....don’t do the math...lol
Blue collar guys? Cool with me.
...zzzzzzz....
Why did you join FR in 2001 and just pop up during election seasons? I checked your posting history. I think youre a troll just trying to stir the pot.
You don’t know how to check;
Here one of them
If tomorrow Bin Laud-en wanted to have a Permanent Cease Fire and part of the terms of their surrender is that United States is to pass all John McCain ideas and legaslation. I would say hell no.
But Republicans will do exactly that by making McCain President.
We could never lose the war on terror, no matter who is president.
If Hillary wins, she would push for universal health care, but it would not get passed because Republicans would filibuster so it would not become law.
If McCain wins he would push for universal health care but it would get passed because few RINOS would go along with the Dems, (not filibuster) so it would become law.
That goes for anything that Hillary tries to pass into law.But just a few RINOS with the Dems could pass anything with McCain.
If you are Pro Life and against activist judges how can you vote for a man who was the leader of the gang of 14 and voted baby stem cell research.
