Where California's second race date should be?
Vegas, Baby!!!
1100
We shot all the bears around here, still have a few big kitties left though.
Been gone all day and you come back and snatch the 1100!
My bud from work was at the staging area - only a mile or so from where we work.
The boy and I were at the track....waiting....
The bud is emailing me the location of the parade...I'm giving updates to all other fans around me....was just a lot of fun.
The #48 hauler was a "no-show" for the parade, other wise we would have clicked it...!
just adding some drama perhaps,, sounds like it should get treated like any one else has been so far....
Ummm.....whasss dat?
Keep in mind that I'm not up to thinkin' speed after 3 days of the track, so type slow, ok?
Ya done good, get some rest.. and Thanks for the pics and race scuttlebutt..
Excellent point.
I understood though the prior infractions to be a safety issue, not a performance issue.
Maybe they just wanna see whats causin' these lids to pop off? Nahhhh....
NASCAR finds ‘issue’ with 99 in post-race inspection

LAS VEGAS — Carl Edwards’ Sprint Cup victory in the UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will stand, but he’s likely to lose some of the driver and owner points he earned after NASCAR officials found “an issue” with his No. 99 Ford in post-race inspection late Sunday.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Edwards’ car did not fail post-race inspection. But inspectors did find something amiss.
“We had an issue in post-race inspection with the 99. The lid on the oil reservoir encasement, or the oil tank box, was off,” Poston said. “So we’re going to take the 99 back to the [NASCAR] Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., and if there are any actions that need to be taken, those will be taken and announced next week.”
Earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR officials discovered five Nationwide Series cars to have a similar problem during post-race inspection following their season-opening race. Each of the teams eventually were docked 25 driver and 25 owner points.
Poston said the situation with Edwards’ car was not quite the same.
“It was similar. In those cases, the lids were loose,” Poston said. “The lid on the 99 was off.”
Edwards has won the past two Sprint Cup races. His victory Sunday vaulted him and the No. 99 car to the top of the driver and owner point standings. He currently has 491 driver points and is 21 ahead of Kyle Busch, who is in second with 470.
Bob Osborne, Edwards’ crew chief, said Sunday night that he would wait until after NASCAR is able to take a closer look at the car at the R&D Center before making any comments.
"The lid was still on the oil tank. The tank sits in an enclosure that has a bolt on lid on it. The "box" is open at the bottom and if the lid is off, air from beneath the car evacuates out the top of the box and creates lower pressure under the car ... more downforce."
Bummer about post race inspection. Something is wrong with those lids. Last week's car (same car?) must have been fine.
NASCAR needs to get to the bottom of it. I seriously doubt anything intentional since a team would know the car would fail inspection. Only a desperate team would go for a win knowing they would be sacrificing points in the end.
Oh...yeah, now they are totally totalled and I am so totally in last place with my totally lousy total. Doing slightly worse than the Hendrick team...
And if Jr wouldn't have spun his tires and if Matt would have gone low and if Jeff would have gone high, one of the three of them "might" have had something for Flipper in the end.
As my dear departed Mother used to say, "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his butt every time he hopped." ;)
Sure, you’re just playing Tony Stewart’s game of laying back!
I see no aerodynamic advantage of an oil cooler lid being off, or even loose. In fact, I would think it would be a disadvantage. The performance of the oil cooler is to keep oil temps down, making the engine last longer. Hotter oil loses it’s ability to lubricate, potentially causing engine failure.
A lid being off of a oil cooler could cause the oil to be hotter because the air flow is not directed through the cooler, but glances off the cooler, which is essentially a small radiator in design. That would reduce the cooling capacity. Also hotter oil reduces performance by increasing engine friction. Even one HP loss is significant.
Another note. If there had been problems with oil cooler lids at Daytona, then there would certainly been bulletins issued pointing out the issue. Knowing there would be scrutiny of oil coolers, and knowing the 99 car was a top contender, the team would have made certain all mounts would be properly in their place.
With the design of the new chassis, the oil cooler mountings are of a different design than the old car. There could be a design problem, and that is why NASCAR is taking the car back to Charlotte. I find it highly unlikely there would have been any effort on the part of the 99 team to cause part failure knowing there was a recent history of issues.
I think this is a lot of whining by the JR fans. Biffle and Kenseth were right up there in contention and could have just as easily won it if not for rainbow boy wrecking Kenseth, who led quite a few laps. Was his oil cooler lid loose?? Or are the FORDS stepping up and kicking butt???
