Yeah, I just saw the news. A sad day indeed. It’s hard to describe the impact Buckley and NR have had on my life. What’s crystal clear is the impact he had on the nation. He saved the Republican Party and was the first mover of the modern conservative movement. I can’t believe he’s gone.

He, along with Whitaker Chambers, fought the good fight against the Soviet Union. Their resolve lead to the rise of Ronald Reagan who brought that Evil Empire to its knees. Hence, he deserves credit for helping to free millions of people around the world. Plus he loved his family, the sea and living.
Hearing of his passing brings to minds so many warm memories.
RIP

A great patriot, a great writer and a faithful Catholic. May he rest in peace.

This is a loss the depth of which will take a long time to fully comprehend. He had a rare intellect and influenced millions.
Condolences.

One of my most cherished memories was the time he published and replied (personally) to a letter that I had written to NR.

A sad day,...here on Earth.
God bless Mr. Buckley on a life well lived.
Prayers for his family.

Buckley always struck me as more of a libertarian than a conservative, with his support for recreational drug use and the like, but his passing leaves a huge hole in the movement.

It is like losing a national treasure. One of my favorite all time books ...”Miles Gone By.”
The insights of this man have molded my own conservative thought ... he will be sorely missed

Every liberal in the world is breathing a sigh of relief. He was a briliant man with a very sharp and frequently caustic tongue. He did not suffer fools lightly, especially liberal ones. One of my fondest memories was one of those tag team debates and his dueling opponent was Barbara Boxer. The terror in her stupid cow eyes still makes me laugh when I think about it
