I hope he wrote his own eulogy for the funeral. Who else could do it better?

I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is
creating something, one is being paid for it
and one is the feeling that I haven’t just
been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

[ Read Buckley's Atlantic High: first point of order is to determine who are the chiefs and who are the indians. Loved Firing Line.. God rest his soul. ]
Indeed god rest his soul... He was brilliant on firing line.. Pedantic and Aloof most of the other time.. as far as I can perceive.. But I was not in his inner citcle.. being Non Ivy League and all that..
Might have made a good President.. considering the twerps running for the office now..

"Hell," he wrote, "should be capitalized because it is a real place. (N.b. John Derbeyshire). Yes. Derbyshire has "lost his faith...." Buckley never lost his: I think that is the secret of his greatness.
I had a feeling he would not long survive his wife.... Alas, he followed her all too quickly.
May God ever bless William F. Buckley, and grant rest to his valiant, magnanimous soul. RIP.

Should have seen it on TV. I still remember that moment I thought Vidal was going to pop a Blood vessel.
To: Dog
Rest in eternal peace... you left us too soon.
To: Senator Goldwater
Willian Buckley was a genius....and a great American.
Loved him....

If British exceptions are permitted, may I add Mr. G. K. Chesterton to that introduction?

Absolutely, GK Chesterson would be perfect for that group. Might not be a bad idea to add Clive S Lewis to the mix also.

Lewis... Great addition as well. Perhaps The
Inklings might even invite Mr. Buckley to join
their confab.

Oh yes... Jean Kirkpatrick was an awesome woman.
She and another of my favorite heroines share a name... Jean D’Arc.

Earthen husks are peeled away for two now, who stood out with the redemptive energy of truth against the world's darknesses -- during the very same time, in very different yet overlapping circles.
As Buckley, the timeless patriot appeared in a "better country" -- "in another land" was Larry Norman unveiled, Sunday.
They each were unafraid to be conspicuous and brilliant with their borrowed light. They each beckoned to and feed very many of us, at a critical time for them, to preserve God's bruised reed of our history.
This week's departures seem to confirm it -- while so many have faded from so many kinds of greatly needed ministry, lately -- we are in a different era, now. We are grateful, but we are concerned. Yet, as the previous posts have reminded, all these true leaders have led us to the Source -- as were they. That, we may always gain.

God bless him. I always respected the man, even when I didn't agree with him.
Requiescat in pace.

We thank God for these two great men, and pray He will grant them eternal rest.
