Four score & two - and very full ones at that.

Buckley’s face off with Gore Vidal in 1968 was a classic -

Buckley to Vidal...”Now listen, you queer. Stop calling me a crypto Nazi, or I’ll sock you in the goddamn face and you’ll stay plastered.”

When I was just a teenager back in the 60s and the time came for me to decide what kind of a person I was going to be as an adult, it was William F. Buckley Jr.'s writings that convinced me I was a conservative American. Thanks to him, I never had to go through that immature, Liberal phase of life that most college kids go through.

God bless you and RIP William F. Buckley Jr. You done good sir!

“His political debates...with Gore Vidal”

During the 1968 convention. Those were classics. At the age of twenty-two these were my first exposure to his wit and intellect. Wonderful, brilliant man. And does anyone else remember impressionist David Frye doing a great Buckley, as well as all of the other players of that year’s presidential race?

Okay, sorry, one more. Saw the story on RightVoices and bounced back to search for topics. This is the first one, many others (see search results, this one is from the NYT).

In Christ, dear Bill. You were, and will remain, one of my hereos. I had the chance to meet him once and he was as sweet and wonderful as I could have hoped.

Last summer, I received a letter from him, a response to one I had written him, and it is framed in honor on my wall and today, my heart is heavy.

And pedantic. :-)

RIP, Bill. You will be sorely missed.

I cut my teeth on National Review. Mr. Buckley helped shape and solidify the thinking of this conservative. Prayers for Pat and Christopher and the NR family.

That’s a good death, though. His life’s work done, full of years and memories, to die in one’s sleep, in one’s own bed, at home. Either that, or struck by lightning on the golf course.

RIP Mr. Buckley.

One of the last things I did with my dad was to take him to see Buckley in a talk in Sacramento, It was on my wedding anniversary and my wife was nice enough to let me take dad.

Later I was able to have him sign my program.

I still have it.

I am listening to Rush talk about him. This is a shock. How is that? He is not family. Why am I stunned? I couldn’t have imagined it before.

I'm surprised that the NYT staff paused champagne cork popping long enough to get the news onto the wire.

They have the obits pretty much written up ahead of time. They might have tweaked it a little, but most of the content was ready to go.
