Byrd hospitalized after fall

WASHINGTON - Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia was hospitalized Tuesday after complaining of back pain following a fall at his home, his spokesman said.

Byrd, 90, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the longest-serving senator in history, was staying overnight at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for observation, said spokesman Jesse Jacobs. It was not immediately clear whether he had suffered broken bones.

Jacobs said Byrd fell at his Virginia home Monday night. He came to his office Tuesday and was on the Senate floor to vote for an Indian health bill. But after noticing he was wincing in pain, Byrd's staff recommended that he see the Capitol physician, who "smartly for a 90-year-old man advised him to go to Walter Reed for observation."

Byrd, who as Senate president pro tempore is third in line to the presidency, walks haltingly with two canes. Due to his frail condition, some Senate Democrats reportedly explored ways to replace him as Appropriations chairman, but he continues to hold the post.

Could have fallen after realizing Obama took this nomination for Hillary, but in any case being older is tough and getting hurt sucks.
Hope he recovers well and is OK.

he is actually one of the more conservative democrats, especially on social issues.
but it is really really hard to be respectful of anyone, GOP or democrat, conservative or liberal, if he has KKK ties

He’ll feel right at home in the hospital with all of those white sheets they have.

I should say, *hopefully* nothing was. Guess it’s not 100% certain yet.

Pins.

She was in very poor health by that point in her life, so the doctors were afraid that she might not recover from a full hip replacement.

She recovered from the operation and lived for another five years before passing away from complications to Parkinson's.

Every time I watch this man speak, I am awestruck. Revulsion at beliefs, but admiration for his will to continue on. I’ve watched as his aides have helped him put his mic on because his hands were shaking. Watched as the page turns became more frequent because the words had to be printed so large. He is one of the last old-time orators.

It is past time for him to step down. Maybe this will convince him, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back.

Prayers up, Senator, for a full recovery.

To go from KKK to the moonbat fringe of the current Demon-crat party. The man knows how to pick a good thing... / sarcasm off

Hope for his family and for him all goes well. Even the likes of him deserve not to suffer.

My grandmother broke her hip after a fall and she never really recovered.

Same with my grandmother. She had shown signs of Alzheimer's for several years, but after her surgery she entered a very steep decline. Traumatic pain, pain medications, and especially general anaesthesia in someone that old often cause damage that isn't immediately obvious.
