U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann has written to U.S. immigration officials to determine how an illegal immmigrant allegedly was able to cause last week's fatal school bus crash in Cottonwood.
Bachmann asks the assistant secretary of Homeland Security in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Julie Myers, how federal and local law enforcement can ensure such a thing never happens again.
Bachmann also raises questions with ICE about the suspect, Olga Martinez Franco, who had gone by the alias Alianiss Morales. A woman using that name was ticketed for driving without a license in Montevideo in 2006.
Bachmann says she wants to know what measures ICE has in place to "foster greater cooperation with local law enforcement authorities."
ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok says the agency responds directly to members of Congress when they make inquiries.
He says ICE works closely with law enforcement agencies on every level. But he says ICE routinely is not notified by local law enforcement when traffic tickets are issued to suspected illegal aliens.
He says the incident in Cottonwood is tragic, and ICE continues to work with law enforcement agencies to help minimize the possibility of future incidents.
True. But we are first a constitutional republic of free and *INDEPENDENT* states. We don’t have to stand around waiting for permission or blessings of the federal gov’t.. We can defend our borders ourselves. We should require employers to use that verification system. What is the state legislature actually doing for us? They ought to get to work on this. Employability verification first. If there are no jobs, they won’t come here. There ought to be penalties for employers and jail time for the illegals who escape the system who are discovered some other way. Then, no driver’s licenses, no insurance without proof of legal residency. If they dare drive without those 2 things, they go to jail. The federal gov’t. gets billed for the costs of jailing them. We need some sharp State Attorney General to sue the federal gov’t. to recuperate these costs.

A. Doesn’t have a clue
or
B. Is shoving all the responsibility off on ICE
Either way her feet should be held to the fire.

“The woman charged with causing the fatal school bus crash in southwestern Minnesota was pulled over by police a month before the accident on the same highway, and in what appears to have been the same minivan.
Her boyfriend, who was driving the van at the time, was ticketed for driving without a license.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned that in 2006, Olga Marina Franco was stopped by police in Motevideo for driving without a license. She was able to lie to an officer and used a false identity and ID card.
Days before the fatal Cottonwood crash, Franco was given a ride home in a squad car, again using her alias of Alianiss N. Morales, to prevent a deputy from knowing she was in the country illegally, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has confirmed.
According to a sheriff’s department report, on Jan. 16, Franco was riding in the minivan on a stretch of Highway 23, about 40 miles from the spot of last week’s fatal crash that killed four students from Lakeview Public School. It is the same van that Franco was driving at the time of the crash.
A Kandiyohi County deputy pulled over the Plymouth Voyager after noting the license plate wasn’t easily visible.
The driver, Samuel Rivera Melendez, had a learner’s permit but not a license. His girlfriend, Franco, told the officer she had no state ID card or driver’s license and claimed to be Aliannis Morales.
Melendez was ordered to pay $187 in fines.
The couple told the deputy there were returning home to Willmar from Cottonwood, where they worked. It was about 2:30 a.m.
The woman has since been identified as a 24-year-old from Guatemala who was living in the town of Minneota. She has been charged with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide, as well as running a stop sign and driving without a license.”

I agree BTLD. Michele is a leader in the illegal immigrant issue.

I met Michele at a Delano 4th of July parade a couple of years ago. We’re similar age, similar size and able to do it.
