Bush's Kosovo policy, like Chamberlain's Munich policy, could lead to war

History has been a harsh critic of Neville Chamberlain's decision in 1938 to allow Adolf Hitler to trash the WWI Versailles peace treaty to seize control of and change the borders Europe, first France in the Rhineland, then Czechoslovakia and Poland. President George W. Bush's quick acceptance of the efforts of the Albanians in Kosovo to change the borders of Serbia will also be viewed in history as an appeasement that did not work.

World War II actually began when Adolf Hitler marched a mere 14,500 troops into the Rhineland on March 7, 1936, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I and the Locarno Treaty which was signed in 1925 that included the "Rhineland Pact" between Germany, France, Belgium, Britain and Italy. The Rhineland Pact's main provision was an agreement among Germany, France and Belgium end border raids, with Britain and Italy agreeing to guarantee the borders in the event of aggression by any of the other states. ... Kosovo is for Serbia a land somewhat similar to what Pennsylvania is to Americans. Kosovo is the cradle of Serbian liberty and the center of their Serbian culture. There are hundreds of structures, churches, monuments, monasteries, that attest to that history. What has happened in Kosovo, with America's help, would be similar to a large group of Islamic fundamentalists, whose hero and mentor is Osama Bin Laden, moving into Pennsylvania over the next 50 years, as Albanians did in Kosovo in the 20th Century, and then voting to become an Independent State with membership in the United Nations, as they burned down the Christian churches, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell while driving out and seizing the property of the remaining Christians, Jews and non-Churched homeowners.

Nah.
What happens in the Balkans could never start a major war.

“The Kosovo-Albanians have played us like a Stradivarius. We have subsidized and indirectly supported their violent campaign for an ethnically pure and independent Kosovo. We have never blamed them for being the perpetrators of the violence in the early ‘90s and we continue to portray them as the designated victim today in spite of evidence to the contrary. When they achieve independence with the help of our tax dollars combined with those of bin Laden and al-Qaeda, just consider the message of encouragement this sends to other terrorist-supported independence movements around the world. Funny how we just keep digging the hole deeper!”—Maj-Gen. Lewis MacKenzie

The best way to prevent more war in the Balkans is for NATO to remain in control of Kosovo.

Are we alarmed yet?
Guess not. Maybe a few more war threads will get us whipped up into a fear frenzy.

The Kosovars were good at playing the Media with all those starving children and stories of rape etc...Clinton fell for it as did the MSM. In truth this is a problem for Europeans to handle. We should not be involved. No one has clean hands here.

No, giving Kosovo back to the Serbians is the best way to cause more war. The Serbians have proven that they are incapable of governing Kosovo. The riots in Belgrade and burning of the U.S. Embassy are proof of it. It’s better for NATO to remain in control of Kosovo.

You may be correct but it should be the Clinton - Bush policy as the meat and potato of our policy was under Clinton and there the damage was done.

The writer prefers rhetoric to facts, doesn't he.

Neville Chamberlain's decision in 1938 to allow Adolf Hitler to trash the WWI Versailles peace treaty to seize control of and change the borders Europe, first France in the Rhineland

How many errors can he make in one sentence?

The Rhineland was re-militarized in 1936, not 1938. Strike one.

Chamberlain wasn't PM in 36 - Baldwin was. Strike two.

No borders were changed. German military forces re-occupied German sovereign territory. Strike 3. He's out.

There is some question as to whether the action should be considered a violation of the Versailles treaty (Article 43) or a violation of the Locarno treaty (Article 1). But I'll spot him that one.

Well, except, actually, we’ve been in a war. A war that matters to everyone. But, as usual, the eurtards want to pretend its all someone elses problem and has nothing to do with them.

The idea that war might now, just now, be upon that part of europe is ridiculous in the extreme. Too late, sucks to be them. Not our problem until it’s time to clean out Kosovo with neutrons. If the Serbs want to align with the losers from Russia, then good for them. One less place for us to worry about, since we’ll need to burn them out eventually too.

Serbia is the friend of Russia and now, iirc, signed on with a defense pact with Iran.

Sucks to be them.

I would appreciate being removed from this ping list.

“The Kosovo-Albanians have played us like a Stradivarius.

I can't agree with that statement! The clinton administration knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to remove the terrorist tag from the terrorist UCK, conducted their sham negotiations and begin their terror bombing campaign.

The Bush administration also knows exactly what it's doing.

Both administrations have been running the merry-go-round. The Albanians have hopped on for a free ride!

Euroweenies haven't the capability for a MAJOR war and the USA is stretched so thin in manpower and materials we aren't either

That is the GOOD NEWS and the Bad News

It doesn’t matter whose fault it is now doesn’t it?

Our embassy just got burned by some tribal monkeys,

that is all I have to know.

Pardon my heresy, but between some serbo-albanian crap and Clinton, I will side with Clinton any time,

at least he doesn’t burn our flags (at list not that we know of it) and speaks English.

Maybe if Clinton had bombed your capital into rubble and turned part of the USA over to muslim nutjobs you would have a different opinion
