McCain 2008. Next President of The United States.
This is a total fraud.
Certain self-appointed “members” of the PR Republican Party convened a meeting over the heads of the duly established island GOP leadership and declared themselves as the new PR GOP leadership and their delegates. A complaint was raised withe the RNC and they did nothing.
Heck, I could gather a couple of hundred cronies tomorrow, elect ourselves to the leadership of the island GOP and it would have the same effect: nothing.
McCain should reject these delegates. The RNC convention should not count these impostors for anything.
Mccain campaign didnt make a big deal about it. AP did
Btw that is the same way its done in wv. brokered i think its called. many of the states citizens dont even know about it
obama campaign likes to talk about how his roots reach out across the world
Mccain has dealt with many in our world for decades
BTTT!
Our problem is that we do not get to vote in the general election because we are not a state, so the primaries would have been our only chance to have a say in the process. Hence, our indignation.
Cheers,
cll
Oh well that is life and sometimes it sucks for some and is good for others and vice versa. Hey i am a bit ticked cause by the time primaries get to pa usually already decided *L* I hate that. I want to be a part of the get out the vote for primaries too *L*
Whoa! A schism in the Puerto Rico GOP?
What surprises me is that the National Committee has done nothing. Is there a chance the delegates will not be recognized at the time of the convention?
While I know that many have questioned the validity of the convocation to the party reorganization meeting of a few months back, the list of McCain delegates elected yesterday would likely be the same regardless of how the reorganization meeting had been held. And given that one of the GOP officers elected in the “coup” was John Regis, who is McCain’s Puerto Rico Chairman and was also his Puerto Rico Chairman in 2000, I don’t think John McCain will refuse to accept the delegates elected on Sunday.
Actually PR had a Republican congressional delegate.
That's nice, but it's not very imaginative. There have been at least three referenda in my lifetime that framed the question in exactly those terms, and in every one a plurality of the vote opted to maintain the status quo. So, basically, McCain bravely pledged to do nothing. It's a safe position.
Correction: two, not three. 1993 and 1998. After frequent referenda in the early 20th century, they went quiet for a while.
The difference here is that (i) the referendum would be federally sanctioned, so the status definitions would need to be acceptable to Congress, and (ii) voters would first decide whether or not they wanted to keep the status quo, and if a majority votes to change the status quo, then there would be a second vote where they would choose between statehood and sovereignty (with sovereignty being either full independence or “free association/associated republic” status).
