WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A high-tech "virtual fence" on part of the U.S. border with Mexico is finally ready for service and the technology can fight illegal crossings all along the frontier, the Homeland Security chief said on Friday. ADVERTISEMENT
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made the announcement during a review of border-control efforts, at which officials also unveiled higher fines for employers who hire illegal immigrants.
Immigration, a highly charged political issue, has been at the forefront in this presidential election year. Republican front-runner Sen. John McCain of Arizona is fighting conservative criticism he has been too soft on illegal immigration, and Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama accuse the Bush administration of heavy-handed tactics.

How many virtuals are we trying to keep out?
How many virtuals are we trying to keep out?

Yes, good point. I wish they were “virtual”. I would put them all on a giant hard disk drive and air-drop it over Mexico City. And then send Bush and Fox a bill for their paid vacation in the USA -— to be refunded to the American taxpayer and not the tax-sucking government.
“Virtual Fence” == “Wave as You Walk In Cam”
How do we know its working? Will they haul in a hundred people a week per mile and declare it a success, as thousands more scoot past?
This is a virtual success.
Virtual fence my arse. Build a real fraking fence you worthless politicians.
Jerkoff can kiss my virtual a$$.
If “Virtual Fence” is so good rather than a real fence (which we can afford), we should tear down the fence around the White House and the Capital and put up a “Virtual Fence” .
The Feds and Bush are virtually stupid. The last thing they want to do is keep out illegals. Thank goodness for the states...except CA, IL, NY, etc.
That’s an excellent suggestion!
On a related note, Rep. John Culberson said in a radio interview this morning that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tucson will not be prosecuting drug runners caught by the B.P. smuggling in less than 500 lbs. of drugs into the U.S.
Guess how much the smugglers are carrying in now?
If the virtual or high-tech fence is so damn good, tear down the fences and barriers around the White House and the Capitol, eliminate the security personnel at the house and senate office buildings and replace them with cameras and sensors. Since Chertoff is so gung ho on high tech, do the same for the building that houses the department of homeland security. I bet everyone will feel much more safe. NOT!
The virtual fence is there so border agents can WELCOME the illegals in.. with an amnesty card..
Y’OK
Virtual Fence in place..Check
Illegal aliens pouring through virtual fence...Check
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Why can’t we have both kinds of fence?
“Rep. John Culberson said in a radio interview this morning that the U.S. Attorneys Office in Tucson will not be prosecuting drug runners caught by the B.P. smuggling in less than 500 lbs. of drugs into the U.S.”
This is the most cynical, nasty thread I have read yet ... until the next one.
