Hillary Gives Up!
Vanity | 2/22/08 | DWPittelli

Posted on 02/22/2008 5:46:14 PM PST by DWPittelli

Hillary Clinton hasn't publicly conceded the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama, of course. But I have seen a significant new piece of evidence indicating that she has given up, that her actions show she is no longer acting primarily to win the election, but rather to position herself better if she loses. (Psychologically, her closing speech last night has been widely discussed as possibly hinting at the same thing.)

What's the news? She has sent out invitations to Massachusetts supporters that she will be in Boston this Sunday (Feb 24), holding a fundraiser dinner (a $5,000 per table “Conversation with Hillary” that is “In Support of Hillary Clinton for President”). Now she could hold a fundraiser just as easily in a state that still has a primary to come. But she is instead in Massachusetts because whatever differential in cash she can get by being in Boston instead of in Texas or Ohio (or Rhode Island, where she will be earlier in the day) more than outweighs the advantage she could get in votes by showing up in a still-relevant state.

The other interpretation of this news is that she's so broke that she must maximize income even at the cost of not being in relevant states with upcoming primaries. This is different, but almost as good news for Hillary's opponents to right and left – and almost as disheartening to her supporters. It is at least as telling on this score as the news that she has recently loaned her campaign $5 million of her "personal" money.

Most likely, both things are true: Hillary is now more interested in getting her $5 million back than she is in maximizing her chances of winning. She is no longer fighting for the nomination.

we might do well to write in the names of true conservatives that more closely share our point of view.

I’m thinking of writing in Duncan Hunter. But, man, I’d sure hate for a dem to win.

I can’t answer that. I don’t know given a fair process who would have won. I think it is crazy to have big primaries in liberal states that have a disproportionate number of moderate Repubs. States, we are never going to carry such as California, New York and New Jersey. I know the GOP is insisting they can win without conservatives...but I don’t believe it. John McCain is not electable. It was the flawed primary process that gave us a candidate that will lose big in my opinion and cause other Repubs to lose as well.

So I’ll ask you the same thing, just who should the Republicans have nominated?

I didn't hear an answer here so I'll just make one last post and give this up.

It seems that some of you want to just complain about the nominee and don't have any constructive alternative. There is no alternative now, but it doesn't seem many of the critics have any constructive alternative even before McCain locked it up.

Just complaining doesn't really hack it, no matter how angry or wahtever you are.

I'll just say this, I heard a wise person say a long time ago, that if your aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem.

That fits a lot of folks here.

You are definitely part of the problem. And you don't even realize it.

The point is that it is always conservatives who must compromise...the country club set never does. Also, the RHINO’s have betrayed conservatives and everything we believe in. The GOP is becoming just like the Dems. If you look at McCain’s record this last nine years...he has voted with the Dems more than the Repubs. It has been confirmed that McCain said he would not nominate judges like Alito-too obviously conservative. Fund first reported this...it was denied, but Novak confirmed. it. There is no reason to vote for McCain besides the ‘R’ next to his name. This year, that is not enough for me.

Just making a statement...wasn't trying to be 'original.' It's kind of ironic you said that though, considering your herd-like actions.

The way I look at it, I am essentially in the same position as if I were living in Germany in 1933. There is no candidate on the ballot that will stave off the inevitable catastrophe that is coming.

Yes, the parallels are frightening.

In the interests of “full disclosure” I think Shrillary is one of the most contemptible POS sad excuses for a human being ever to blight our national life. Every time she flaps her gums I assume she is uttering more lies and inanities. Obama Hussein is just as bad if not worse but at least he is “clean and articulate” according the Joe Biden.......

Ditto...no more taking what the RINO-RNC tells us is all we can have....as a candidate.

Look, the RINO-RNC did not tell us we had to have McCain. My man Fred got in late and ran a lazy campaign. Hunter didn't have the big bucks. Romney sucked and Huckabee Hucked. Brownback has the charisma of a footstool and Tancredo was a Johnny-one-note. And then there's Ron Paul.......

Where are all the Conservatives like Rick Santorum and George Allen? Still licking their wounds from the ass kickin' they got in '06. And Newt has so much baggage it would take 8 VEEP candidates to help him carry it.

So, don't blame the RNC, blame our guys (Conservatives) for screwing up so badly.
