WASHINGTON Early in Senator John McCains first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a clients corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself instructing staff members to block the womans access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyists client, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship. But to his advisers, even the appearance of a close bond with a lobbyist whose clients often had business before the Senate committee Mr. McCain led threatened the story of redemption and rectitude that defined his political identity.

But...but...but, he’s a war hero.
The McCain story was on page one. Does anyone know on what page the Obama-Sinclair story ran and the length of each story?
(Bite me, Rinos. Enjoy the trap you walked into.)
live by the sword, die by the sword
That didn’t take long, did it? It should have been obvious that once McCain was the GOP nominee his fawning media supporters would turn on him in favor of the Democrats.
In the “Fake but Accurate” arena, what do we know about these four “reporters”?
Well we knew it was going to happen.
The reason the NYTimes published this now is so they can publish the Obama-Larry Sinclair story soon without looking like paid lackeys for her royal bith clinton, so get ready for some real fun when that happens, ha ha ha.
A liberal newspaper attacks a moderate and often liberal Republican and as a conservative you're ready to fight? Doesn't compute.
Rush predicted this a month or so ago...
This story will be soon archived in the “round file” along with George Bush’s alleged coke habit, the Mike Nifong slam dunk case against the Duke Lacross team, former Labor Secretary Ray Donovan’s alleged fraud, George Herbert Walker Bush’s alleged affair and Dan Rather’s CBS 60 Minutes hit piece on Bush’s air guard service! (meanwhile Juanita Broadrick’s rapist is a free man!)
.
But...but...but it was just wagging its tail a few minutes ago.
Expedient way to get the emphasis off Hillary’s campaign collapse. In addition, it puts an early shot across the bow of the same candidate they endorsed when it was important to defeat conservatives.
If only McCain were to win and be as vindictive against the press as he was against the Bush Administration. There’s a good reason to vote for him.
Such an assumption hardly matches your tag line!
Who is this Sinclair fellow? </sarc>
What a pack of vultures you people have become.
There is always the ‘female’ gossip story in every election and if McCain could handle his wife and another woman - at his age even eight years ago - I’d say he was a pretty healthy fella!
Of course it’s just a lame attempt at the usual junkfest and the Times has nothing else going - unless it’s Hillary and a girl!
