MSNBC has cited and discussed the press release issued today by Brent Bozell, President of NB's parent Media Research Center, excoriating the New York Times for its article on John McCain. The discussion came during the network's post-press conference analysis of McCain's appearance this morning.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Let me interrupt. This is interesting. Mika just handed me a Blackberry quote here. Chris Matthews, earlier this morning Tim Russert asked the question how would conservatives respond to this? Would they rally behind John McCain, against the New York Times, or would they go ahead and finish off John McCain? I've got this press release. Brent Bozell on the New York Times, quote, politically motivated hit job:
It is beyond appalling that the New York Times continues its steady slide into the journalistic toilet with such a spurious, and so patently motivated, hit job.

Brent Bozell: “The New York Times continues its steady slide into the journalistic toilet.” Ping to Today show list.
The plot thickens- just heard Scarborough say they are going to do an interview with a senior McCain staffer after the break...
Amazing - only the National Enquirer picks up the (currently happening, complete with love child)Edwards affair. Only the New York Times picks up the old McCain affair story. The NYT drops below the NE in journalistic integrity?
Why would anyone expect anything less from the NYT? It’s just a redux of the TANG story. Timed to cause the most damage to McCain, no sources going on the record, and the story is probably made up completely. What’s interesting to me is that it’s such a lame shot. You’d think that if they were going to try to damage McCain, they’d take a better shot than this.
To me, the real story is the NYT. They are simply making up stuff to damage the GOP, as they did with the TANG story back in 2004.
If Bozell was going to go this far in “excoriating” the NY Times for “a politically motivated hit job”, why on earth didn’t he inquire, rhetorically, “Will the New York Times now investigate the reports about Barack Hussein Obama sharing cocaine with his gay lover in a limousine?”
Man, the NY Times has left the door wide open for that very question!
Is there anybody with some guts out there?
BINGO!
Why hasn't Obama been asked a single question about Mr. Sinclair's allegations?
Mr. Sinclair claims to have proof, including receipts and the testimony of a first-hand witness. That's a hell of a lot more than the Times has on McCain.
Nice graphic. Keep that one handy!
By the way, you gotta love this gambit by the McCain campaign: “Insiders” “leak” rumors (Alexandra Polier-John Kerry anyone?) and suddenly McCain is young and vigorous and the magic negro is off the front page. Ingenious.
Wow - looks like Obama was dragging a 100 dollar bill when he caught that baby.
Aye. Running a front page hit piece with no named sources is going to prove tough for the NY Times to brush off.
Thus, they have stuck their paws onto their own tar baby story, and can't seem to get clean again.
Willie Gueiss was interested in the timing. If they had this available in December why wait until now to disclose it. It could have affected the republican primary process.
Mika. Mika just made some hey I’m a part of this show fluff comments. She kept interrupting Joe so much I wanted to throw something at the TV.
When it was Clinton, didn’t the NYT’s push out the, “it’s only about sex” mantra?
The real story here is how desperate MSNBC is to keep this McCain hit job alive. Beginning last night with Olbermann, continuing with the Morning Joe wrecking crew, MSNBC is making a collective fool of itself. It’s almost noon, Mika and Joe have been yammering away since 6 am. Tabloid television on display!!!
Anyone.....have Joe & Mika mentioned the New York Times endorsed McCain just a week or so ago?
Will the New York Times now investigate the reports about Barack Hussein Obama sharing cocaine with his gay lover in a limousine?
You’re kidding, right??
That would a racist, homophobic, hate-crime, doncha know.
McCain, on the other hand, is a white guy, so it’s GLOVES OFF..
re#14 Agreed. As with the LA Slimes 11th hour hit on Schwarznegger, this thing may backfire by p*ssing off GOPers. It sure makes me mad. As this bullsh*t continues, and it will, I will get madder...
Good to see you. Isn’t this fun?
The real fun will be to hear Hillary discuss McCain infidelity. I hope someone ask her about it at the Obama/Clinton debate. Is that tonight?
