For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

Does that mean you’re a Soros fan?

Give it rest, Cindy, who signed up today.

A huge chunk of the Republican base will never vote for McCramnesty and Rats will always vote for the real Rat.

You lose and are not helping your case with your ridiculous replies. OTOH please keep it up. I don't want your case helped because I love America and McCain (Soros toady that he is) will destroy it faster and easier than either Rat.

No I don't want a Rat. I want McCain out and an open convention where we have a chance of getting a candidate we can vote for, a candidate who will be GOOD for America. I'm just beginning to think we have a good chance at it.

I’m here to promote conservatism. Why are you here? I’ve been wondering that for a long time.

Waiting for the Perfect Candidate before you cast your precious vote could take a couple of lifetimes.

So you’re saying that obama or hillary is the less destructive candidate than the R in this race?

Did I get that right?

Thank you. I knew about Bennett’s statements at the time, but I had never heard of the book.

They aren’t running on the Republican ticket so that would be my assessment.

“There are some die hard defenders who would follow McCain right over the cliff. Some here would vote for Ted Kennedy if he had that (R) after his name”.

They remind me of high school debate club students who don’t give a crap about the issues and are only interested in improving their debate skills. With the partisans supporting McCain though, it’s all about winning. He could come out in 100% support of Hillary’s healthcare insurance plan tomorrow and they’d be telling those of us who will not vote for McCain about how disgusting we are if we don’t because that would be a vote for the democrat. The more time I spend reading and listening to Republicans lately, the more I want to give the Democrats a second look. The stink is becoming equally repulsive I’m afraid.

Huh? I asked if the D’s in this election are less destructive than the R’s.

You made no sense. Answering they are the ‘same’ is again like hddvd supporters I’ve seen yacking nonsense. Pick one, no matter how much less worse..

So not voting for the Republican candidate promotes conservatism??

I’m here to make fun of you and the rest of the conservative Sanhedran. Waiting for the last 2 FReepers left claiming the other is a “moderate”!

If the Republican candidate is as bad as any socialist not voting for him is good for conservatism.

Losing this race may set us up around 2024 to win again. Is that worth losing now?

It’s already lost if McCain is the candidate.

Makes for great personal satisfaction, unfortunately it is a disaster for America. So after 8 years of Democrat rule you really think the Country will all of the suddenly vote for Tancredo. Quite a gamble.

Where do you play Texas Holdem?? I’d like to get into that game.

Losing now is the only option we have with mcCain.

Then it’s lost to you guys.

Sour grapes shouldn’t drag us down as a party/movement though. I think mccain sucks, but he’s a whole lot better than the alternative.

No sour grapes. I’m not a Republican I’m a conservative for starters. And I won’t vote for McCain because he isn’t fit for office not because I’m mad at “the Party.”
