For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]
New York Times ^ | February 21, 2008 | JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

As soon as he became the heir apparant the news media that previously gushed over him and his views turned on him.

Good thing the Republican voters let the media pick their candidate. This was utterly predictable. The fools who are pissed at the media for this are funny. Who did not know this was coming? Fools. Good thing he'll only give you about 75-90% of the socialism you'll get with Obama or The LizardLesbian. Wait, don't worry, he won't win. I hope you can afford going to India for good medical care.

“How can you defend this poor choice?”

I’m not defending anything. I won’t however let outraged indignation keep from voting against Obama. This is a BS smear job. Hell the NYT article saya that both McCain and the woman in question said there was no romantic relationship. So we throw the country to Obama because McCain knows a female lobbyist?

Thanks. And yet there are actually people who think we are REQUIRED to vote for McCain just because he has a (R) after his name. He is just as nasty as Hillary or Bill. And the GOP can blame their lack of leadership for turning over the White House to the Obama Communists.

On Dec. 20, the Drudge Report carried a flash that the New York Times was probing the possibility that McCain gave “special treatment” to a lobbyist — and that the senator had asked the paper to kill the story. Drudge sources called the Times piece a “high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee.”

The same day, McCain told reporters that he “had not been in talks with the New York Times. They’ve been communicating with our staff and with us,” McCain said. “I’ve never done any favors for anybody — lobbyist or special interest group — that’s a clear, 24-year record.”

“I skimmed over the article and found there to be nothing of substance.”

So did I. If this is the best they have to throw at McCain, he can start humming “Hail to the Chief” right now. With a wife as stunningly beautiful as Cindy McCain, this whole story is patent nonsense. Only a bottom feeder would start howling about this tripe. He is like a wolf who bays at the moon. He thinks he smells something but the only thing he smells is his own rotten lip.

Right. Imagine the stories they could fabricate on the utterly clean Mitt Romney.

“Romney Parks in Handicapped Space at Local Shopping Plaza.”
“Romney Throws Away Pizza Crust at Local Pizzeria”

We deserve this.

“several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.”

Not very credible. Aside from the fact that no one is on record, the NYT is reporting it.

This is why The New York Times endorsed McCain.

Of course. They still see themselves as king maker and god. What they fail to realize is that they are actually terminally ill -- an old lion that should best be seeking a shady tree under which to die.

this sort of thing should just make him seem more virile.

He can use all the help he can get in that department.

He does have a history of cheating on his wife though. Since the current wife was the "other woman" in an earlier go round, if this is true, she shouldn't be too suprised.
